I've been tackling a lot of problems with my 78' 280z's inconsistent idle and timing, etc... I recently ran some seafoam through my system to try to clean any gummed up lines or pathways that might be causing issues with fuel. I actually ended up discovering something else that makes me feel that my issues might be due to vacuum leaks. I found white smoke that appears to be leaking from in between the intake manifold and the engine block. I'd imagine that this could pose a significant cause for my vacuum issue. I plan to remove the intake and exhaust manifolds to replace that gasket and hope that might solve my issues. But I started thinking... if i'm going so far as to d…

Does anyone know the thread size for the 240Z water temp sensor? I want to update / replace the gauge but rather not change the fitting on the engine.

Question - recently replaced my carbs with rebuilt ones on a '71 240Z. Managed to get the car started but it is doing the strangest thing.......I have to keep the choke open and it will drop down to 500 rpm's and then go up to almost 3,000 rpm's without me touching anything?? It's crazy! The gas pedal is non responsive to?? I try to keep the car going by stepping on gas but it does NOTHING. I think I have another issue that is not carb related. Any ideas?

Hey Team I have spent a lot of time on this forum and i want to say thank you all so much this is an incredible community. I have hit a brick wall and looking for a little help. Background story; I'm helping a friend of mine fix his 280z with 30,000 miles on it all original. Car has been garage kept all its life. Really really well taken care of. Apparently some one A-hole mechanic tried before me and failed miserably and i don't know what he/she messed up or touched. After them the car didn't even start. Fixed that issue. (FACE PALM) ?♂️ When you try to start the car it tries to start but never does on its own. If you give it gas than the car star…

Hi guys, My gas gauge has never been accurate past the 1/3 emptyish mark. When the tank has 8 gallons remaining, it will always read as empty (I've tested this by going to the pump the second it reads empty multiple times and I always end up putting in about 8 gallons. Recently my gauge hasn't been reading full when I top the tank off - it will read maybe around 15 gallons in the tank instead of 18. I have taken the fuel sending unit out a few times for cleaning and everything inside on the coil/arm (both plug ends too) look great. I pulled the dash gas gauge and everything in there looks pristine as well. The real nail in the coffin is when I have the sendi…

Looking for a lower half patch of my 280z front fender. Found a site that’s slightly cheaper than Z car depot. Anyone ever used TABCO before? Trustworthy?

Hi, Apologies in advance if I have missed a post with similar issues described: please link: My 280Z has been acting odd as of late. While out on a test drive, I pulled into a petrol station, but upon restarting the car, the car would start but would idle roughly (500rpm) and suddenly die after about three seconds or upon any throttle input. I tried to start the car again a few more times while fiddling with a few things in between (checking fuel pump, checking grounds etc.) but after about an hour of letting the car cool down, the car suddenly burst into life and I was able to drive it home. Later that afternoon, after replacing the fouled sp…

Like to get some clarification if I can Please. After looking through many posts that might provide an answer for me. Is the 78 model steering rack different from the 77 and older 280z racks. I’ve checked the Nissan parts listing and can’t find any difference other than the 240 p/n listings. What I’ve found is when I search for a replacement for the 1978 it’s either not available or on back order. The only site that show a listing is Buy Auto Parts and it’s back ordered. My manufacture date is 1/77. Can any one clear this up for me. Appreciate the help.

This is the second part of "timing chain set up incorrectly' posted Nov 30th. I tried to adjust the oil pump spindle as suggested by folks on this site. It would not after several hours adjust as suggested. I referred to how to rebuild you datsun engine by Tom Monroe and adjusted it as the book suggested this was different then what was suggested. It now turns over but will not start. Could this be related to the oil pump spindle position This is where it was set- This is what was suggested- This is where is was set per the book by tom monroe

Hi All, Had a service provider preform a rear disc brake conversion on a 73 240Z. Basically the stage one kit from MSA. Maxima calipers with 280z rotors. Before the car went into the shop the suspension was upgraded with new springs and struts. eibach springs 1" lower then stock. When the car was delivered from the service provider, began to experience a clunking in the rear of the car (drivers side first, then pass). Upon inspection for loose gland nut / strut or suspension issues, discovered (when the car was on the ground and the suspension was fully loaded) the SS hard brake line mount (L bracket mounted on the sub frame) is making contact with the emerge…
