Here is the deal. I have a whining in my car, it sounds like strait-cut gears. The engine and tranny are pretty tired so the tranny might be the problem. Other guess is the rear differential, or wheel bearings. The whining is only present when there is stress on the drive train. If i am accelerating, or tranny braking the whine is there, if i am cruising/decelerating slowly there is no whine. I don't suspect the wheel bearings because it isn't always noisy. So it is diff or tranny, right? What do you think?

Hello everyone, I have a couple of different questions all relating for the same subject. This past weekend i picked up an complete drivetrain that I won off of Ebay for a 75' 280z (the same year as the one I have). I got a whole lot of stuff with it for a good price of 255 bucks  There are a couple parts that I can't tell what type they are and if they are any better than the ones I already have on my 280z. First off is the header. One reason I bought this was for the muffler (which I had to replace). The new one looks to come with a 6-2-1 (I think) which is made to go with the muffler and exaust. How much better is this one than my other one on my car. (refe…

Well my stock '71Z is still running funny. The car seems to idle fine, but when I'm on the freeway at normal speed it will repeadedly backfire through the one of the carbs. When I floor it it will run well up to about 4000, then feels like it's running out of gas or the points are whacked. Also I checked the plugs and they are all kind of white, the 4,5,6 being the worst with a slight flakyness to them. I've replaced the wires, plugs, points, cap and rotor. I thought I ajusted the carbs well, but maybe I didn't? Any thoughts or comments to something I may be overlooking? Thank ya'll

77 280. While in the garage for body work in Dec 04, the car had a lot of trouble starting. Starter would just wind and wind, but car would not fire. Replaced fuel pump, since it was leaking. Thought it might be flooding at the time. Car ran for a week or so, then wouldn't start. Starter would try, but again, it seemed that the engine wouldn't fire:ermm: . Pissed off, I've let the car sit since. ...Until this past Sunday. Charged the battery with a different (better?) charger. Removed the distributor wire from the coil, to see if there was a spark to a ground, and there was none. Buttoned everything back up. Left the battery charging. Monday, just for the hec…

I have purchased a urathane bushing kit front and rear and steering rack, it has tie-rod ends and ball joints also. While i am doing this i am planing on replacing the struts, wheel bearings and seals. Is there anything else that i should replace. Do new struts come with boots? Is there a bearing at the top of the strut that should be replaced? I havn't done work on a 240z's suspension before so i don't know exactly what there is that will need replacing. This car sat for 13 years before i got it so i am expecting that most what could be replaced needs to be replaced. Thanks.

Drove the car three days ago, no problems. Car has a 5-speed I picked up 3 years ago from Eddie Radatz in Atlanta, don't know what it came out of. I go to take the demon out for a spin today after ripping out the A/C and the tranny won't go into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. It will go into 5th, and when in the neutral position, it'll pull as if it's in 2nd or 3rd gear. It will go into what I think is reverse, and the engine will drag as if a load is being put on it, but the car won't move. i look under it and there is a small puddle of what may well be transmission fluid, about a half or 3/4's of a cup. Is the transmission dry? How can I be sure it came out of the tranny…

I was going to replace my old cracked steering wheel with a Momo from MSA. The only problem is the new wheels are smaller and fatter and block the speedo and tach for some one who is tall like me. Has anyone had dealings with american-stitches.com on recovering their old steering wheel. Their web site looks impressive. I already did the MSA wheelskins and don't like the look. Tkanks

Just picked a parts car. Previous owner said it was a Rally engine from a 1970 240z. Does anyone know if I could verify it from the numbers on the engine block?

after rebuilding the suspension on my 77 280z about a year ago, it stalled one day and I coulnt get it restarted. I havent had time to really mess with it till the other day. I replaced a fusible link wire I thought might be the problem and it started and I drove it, albeit rough it ran okay. the next morning I went out to get it in tune and couldnt start it. found that the cold start valve was leaking from where the electrical connector, connects with the rest of the part. I removed it and covered the hole where it goes. but then found that the cylinders and plugs were being overwhelmed with flooding. I am at a loss please help if you can Thanks In advance CJ Callagher

I Just bought a 74 260z with 24,925 miles on the car for $1,000.00 (included is a 71 240z in the price.) The car has been sitting for about 11yrs. The car turns over and acts like it want's to start but won't start. What could the problem be. I think the carbs are gunked up. If they are how do I fix the problem? DeeDee

Hi. I am installing a new brake master cylinder on my 72 240. Is there anyway to bleed it prior to installation so that I don't have to re bleed the entire system? Thanks. Bill.
