About 2 years ago I purchased my 280z for 300$. It was a rusted sad looking car that was stripped. I brought it home where I didn’t have a garage and just started stripping it. I got laid off that winter so I took it down to bare chassis. I took all of the suspension pieces and brought them to bare metal and painted them all. I put the car back come spring time then stripped the engine bay and interior following with a coat of paint. For a while I was gonna go with the 280zx turbo motor but then i changed. I ordered a 1JZ-GTE non VVTI and grabbed a trans from a Pontiac solstice. I taught myself how to weld when patching the sheet metal then took classes and actually got a…

I've been searching for an air filter housing to put onto my round top SUs, but holding out to find the mounting hardware. I have an offer for the housing in great shape, but the seller is telling me he has the mounting bolts (both sides of the wing nuts) from a flat top setup that should work. Does anybody know if these flat top wing nut bolts will work on the round tops? Thanks!

So I recently rebuilt my spare l24 by replacing main/rod bearings, piston rings, head gasket, oil pump, water pump, timing chain/sprocket/tensioner/guides, valve stem seal gasket, distributor stator/ ignition control module, ignition coil, plugs/wires... I’m sure I’m missing a few things but I’m sure you get the gist. I haven’t had any luck starting the engine. Starting fluid just makes the car backfire through the exhaust My l24 has triple Weber 40 DCOE’s (NOT running chokes or vacuum advance) a 280zx distributor and the rest is pretty much stock. The engine does have compression. SPARK I have checked spark with a spark tester and I have spark in …

I'm still unsure when my 71 was built, I understand that the early 71's had vents on the back hatch. Mine doesn't have them, I'm sure it's the original hatch, the color matches the rest of the interior paint. Were there ever vents on the rear quarters VIN HLS30-41253

Hi, i have some (hopefully) easy to fix problems with my 1978 280Z. The car has a pre '81 5 speed in it with a R200 diff. The first problem is a buzzing/mild grinding noise coming from the gearshifter especially in 5th gear, which gets louder the fast you drive. I checked different forums for this problem and the suggested solution was always checking the bushings and plastic cap on the stick. I did that, they are Nissan OEM parts in pristine condition ( is suspect a previous owner swapped them). I am pretty much clueless right now if this is just normal or a serious problem with the gearbox. The noise dissapears if you hold the stick tight in the right position. …

Hey All! I just purchased a L28ET engine with the P90 head and F54 block from an 81zx turbo. I want to build the engine up and put it in a early 240z. I am thinking about switching it to triple carbs. I am going to go with performance cam. My ideal goal is to get around 250hp out of the engine. Any advice or help on what I should do to this build to get those numbers and have a great performance street engine with around 250hp let me know! Your help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Hey everyone, I have been a long time lurker on many forums and I have decided to post some questions because I am at the point where I believe I need guidance on next steps and want to make the right decision. The car I am working on is a 78 280z California Car. It is not my car, it is my parents car that I bought them as a gift 10 years ago. It has been a long time since I have driven the car so I don’t recall its characteristics but it always had a presence of fuel smell in the exhaust. The car was parked because the fuel smell and rough driving started getting worse. The car then sat for a year and a half and now its time to get it back up and running. All the items a…

Anyone in the LA Area (4500 block of Worth Street)? I am semi interested in a car in that area and wondered, not for anyone to go out of their way, if someone would be kind enough to inspect a 71 for sale.

I'm at the end of my rope here. I have a 1978 280z and I am having issues getting her to start. I have a spark at the spark plugs due to a tester I bought. My fuel pump works. It is timed correctly because I rotated the engine to TDC at #1 cylinder then put the dizzy back in it's place. All the spark plugs are timed in order at 153624. I took out the cold start valve and made sure it was spraying gas, it does. Although, upon putting it back in the rubber seal broke so now it sprays a little gas everywhere. I tried to circumvent this by just buying starting fluid and spraying it in the intake. Still no dice. My last option is to see if the fuel Injectors are sp…

Cadmium vs Zinc 1 2

I have seen this discussed a number of times on the forum. Has there ever been a definitive answer? Was the hardware on the car originally cadmium plated? I have never really been able to determine if that was in fact the case. I have been having some health issues lately and am trying to run down possible sources of exposure to heavy metals. Cadmium being one of them. Thanks, Charles
