so I bought the jcr 240 and have buyers remorse... bought a turd... so with my only mechanical knowledge being with motorcycles I'm a little lost. seems alot has been ripped out of this car in regards to emissions. If anyone would be so kind as to start rattling off things that are wrong. and what's with the tie wire?

Question for those with experience with these carbs. The car is a 1971 Datsun 240Z with dual Weber 32/36 carbs. It starts and runs perfectly from a cold start. Plenty of power, no issues while driving. However, if it sits for 5-10 minutes, it will take several cranks to fire back up and will often smell of gas and/or smoke out the back. I assume that fuel vapor or fuel is continuing to make its way into the manifold after the car has been warmed up and then shut off. The only time it starts up perfectly is if it sits for 1-2 days (I assume this is because the extra fuel from the carbs has evaporated?) We have replaced the accelerator pumps, needle and seats, a…

Hi all-thanks for the helpful and informative forum here! I got my windshield in properly, thanks to you guys. Much obliged! So I recently blew my car apart for paint, and now have it back together. One of the last pieces of the puzzle now is getting the gapping right on the doors. I took the opportunity to put new rubber on the car, and now both doors don't fully close. The passenger door was always finicky, but the driver door closed great on the old rubber. I'm a little scared to adjust the door at the hinge, as I don't want to chip the paint. Any tips to adjusting the latching mechanism, or door hinge, safely? Thanks much for the help! -RJ

I have the factory fuel tank I'm trying to reinstall in my 71. I've replaced the vent hoses but the gas filler hose (#9 in drawing, if I attached it correctly!) to the tank is original. I'm having trouble getting the tank filler neck to fit back into the bottom of the gas filler hose. The vent hoses don't seem to be binding but the tank filler neck doesn't want to fit back into the original gas filler hose. When I align the tank and filler hose, it looks like the filler hose diameter is too small to allow the tank filler neck to slide up into it. Any thoughts on what I can try would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi community. I have moved to Switzerland from Florida with my 240z and I'm in the middle of getting the homologation of the car to get Swiss License Plates (for the time being I'm still driving around with my Florida Antique blue plates, see attached pic). As part of the technical inspection they are requesting that I present the Owners Manual (which did not get when I bought my car). At http://www.xenonzcar.com/ they had the manual but the link is not working. Anyone who could help me to get a PDF version of it ? Many thanks.

Hi Guys, I had pulled my engine to do some work on it and when I put it back in and attached the battery leads, I started getting this buzzing noise coming from the console area and nothing else seemed to be getting any power. I figured out the buzzing noise was coming from a little brass box in the console area to the left of the fuse panel. From what I can tell it seems like a relay of some sort with three prongs and a fitted plug with 3 wires connected to it, but no part numbers on it. A few specifics: The buzzing is 100% is coming from inside that little box that seems to be a relay. If I unplug that box/relay,…

I have a 75' 280Z with N42 head and will be going back together with a header. Also have deleted the EGR. What is the best intake/exhaust manifold gasket I should be running? (i mean "best for a street car") All the gaskets I see at the local parts stores look like garbage. I'm a fan of felpro gaskets, but even that one looks so so. I think what I took off the engine was a felpro, and I guess it was working but, the header has rectangle ports and the head has rectangle ports...not hexagon. Should I just run whatever or is there a better way to go?

Hello, first off I'd like to introduce myself to you all, I'm Austen Wilcox and I'm 17 years old. Three years ago for my 14th birthday, my parents bought me a 1976 Datsun 280z fixer upper you could definitely call it off of Ebay that was about 5 hours away. Ever since, we've been fixing the car up. I couldn't possibly describe everything that we have done to it because it's been pretty extensive and we finally finished it a couple months ago to the point where it's driveable and is all fixed up you could say. There's lots of things that we have encountered along the way with it. For example, the beginning of last summer the engine blew the head gasket, so my dad just deci…

Hi all-I am about to try to install a new windshield in my '72 240z(just got a new paint job!), and I have one question. I feel like I've exhausted the forum resources(both here and elsewhere) of tutorials on how to do this, so I think I've got a fairly good read on the job(rope in gasket, gasket on glass, trim in gasket, lubricate, windshield into car) however, I have one question: in all of the posts I came across, I don't ever recall anything about an actual adhesive. I would assume that a silicone sealant would be appropriate, but I don't want to assume anything, as I understand it can be a very challenging job. So, should I do a bead of silicone windshield adhesive a…

Well I finally got my Z to (almost) ambulatory status. Unfortunately after about 5 minutes of idling and a very brief trip down the driveway and back, coolant started streaming out of the vent tube originating by the radiator cap. And continued for a couple minutes after shutting it off. Kind of a sad end to it's first self-propelled journey, but was curious if anyone had any ideas on why it would be dumping coolant. I don't think I had it running long enough to get anywhere near overheating. Is that where it would purge if I had maybe over-filled it? Or is it possible that it did overheat after a couple minutes if idling.. I have also recently replaced the th…
