Hey mates So for the past couple of days when I start in the Z in the mornings - and in the afternoons after work - it makes a very quick knocking noise - lasts about three seconds maybe four. Once the noise goes away it doesn't come back. Engine doesn't seem to be low on power, isn't smoking and isn't consuming anymore oil then it already does (I have bad valve seals). I adjusted the valves about five months ago and other than the #6 exhaust valve they were fairly dead on before I did them. When I start my car steam comes out of the side of the Motor, looks like it's coming from the same area as my exhaust manifold. Is my head gasket blown? I keep checking my oil and my oil looks fine, I did notice some antifreeze around my thermostat and valve cover gasket too. What do you think is going on?

I have Sumitomo calipers on my 280 and they need replacing. The auto parts guys are drawing a blank. Where else can I get a set? Other than Japan for 200 bucks. I tried 79 Toyota 4x4 but too short. These MK63s have those weird 'ears' sticking out the sides.

I've been daily driving my z for about a month now and it's starting to have a starting problem. When I drive it for a couple of hours the car starts to lose power and begins to cough up and I pull over to the side of the road and it starts but reads low fuel pressure(13 psi) . So luckily I have a Jerry can in the back of my car and i went to buy some fuel and the car started immediately and so I took the freeway and made it like 5 miles and took my exit and the same Thing happened. I purchased a 74 Datsun 260z recently and when I went to go check it out it was running after jump starting it, I couldn't really take it out for a test drive due to the fact that the previous owner had switched the dash board and could never get it back up, after I towed it home that night I couldn't get it to start up, only the head lights and tail lights would light up, the following day I had no response whatsoever his time not even the lights would turn on, so I took the battery to auto zone hoping maybe charging it would help but they couldn't pick up a signal on the charger so couldn't charge it, they suggested I get a new battery but luckily a friend off mine had …

I am having problems pushing speedo gear body back into back into the gear housing in the back of the 5 spd tranny on my 76 280z. I replaced the cable with a new one because the former owner decided to hook a laptop to an electronic gear body that didn't work the mechanical speedo. The speedometer is the original to the car and requires a cable. The transmission was a swap from a 82 ZX. The former owner did, however furnish me with a correct speedo gear/body that came off this tranny. I put the two bodies and gears side by side and noticed no difference in the gear body and gear. Hi all, stock 1976 280z. I've always had issues with the brakes. Replaced the right rear wheel cylinder in the spring, it was leaking a lot. Just changed both rear shoes and springs last week. The shoes were toast. Brakes still feel like only the front (discs) are working. I verified the rear shoes are not engaging by wedging something on the brake pedal, could still turn the rear wheels pretty easily (jacked off ground). When I pull the e-brake all the way up (mine is nearly vertical), the rears do engage, and I cannot turn them. So it seems the problem lies with the hydraulic part of the brakes. I want to get this weatherstrip done. On the upper outer rear hatch seal, does the lip face towards the inner hatch or does it face towards the front of the car and the right and left side of the body. My weatherstrip has a round circle and a lip. Can't take a pic. Thanks

ok daughters boyfriends 78 280zx has been sitting for about a year before that ran fine now the oil is diluted with fuel we changed the oil. Started catr ran for 30 seconds then nothing tried and tried and let sit the night next morning start ran for 30 seconds again then nothing. oil is diluted with fuel again. dont know anything really about these motors hoping someone has had this problem and could help us out or buy the car as it sits we are located in Aumsville Oregon. The kid is 18 and does not have extra money to dump into trying to figure it out a a repair shop would rather move on to something else that easier to work on and will cost less in insurance. any help …

I have a 78 280z with 0 compression in cylinder 1 and limited in another. I had car to.classic mechanic who suggested rebuild of the engine. It starts but makes loud ping sound running. He did not want to to do work because he was not familiar with Datsun. Could not find replacement engine either. How do I find a mechanic to do work, and what is realistic cost? He said 5k which seemed high. Body is solid so fixing seems right idea, but I could use advice.

Hey everyone, this is my first time posting here on the forums. I've poked around and read on here and a few other sites for a couple of years now and have finally gotten around to making an account. Majority of my problems I've been able to solve either by reading on here or in one of the manuals but I've come across a bit of problem.
