Edited the title to reflect the new questions regarding the fuel tank. Trying to figure out what is inside this tank. I believe strong that it was sitting in storage since 1981, and so if it was a previous tank liner it might be very old. ----------------------- Replacing the fuel hoses today and doing the lines by the tank. The port on the fuel tank that accepts the return fuel hose seems a bit loose. If it was weld on there, then I fear maybe the joint is weakened and could fail. It seems like maybe its threaded, since if i turn it clockwise a little it tightens. (or i could be imagining it) Unfortunately it needs to turn clockwise past its original posi…

Hi CZC! Long time lurker and first time poster. I have much enjoyed the content that is provided here on CZC forums. I am in a pickle however. Long story short. My 280z was placed in the garage for nearly a year. I am trying to get her running smoothly. When I crank the car, the car will run roughly (as if some cylinders were not firing.) My car would shake all over the place. A friend told me that it was mis firing so I did the easiest and most common things first and that was to replace the spark plugs, spark wires, cap and rotor. After installing all the said things, it ran and idled under 1000 rpms after gassing the car for maybe 5 mins (still rough shaking...). N…

Is the drawing wrong and should it be aligned / like if you look at it from top at 01:35 Should i remove the oilpump an…

I'm trying to install the smog pump on my all original Late 260Z (with A/C) and can't find where the adjusting arm attaches to the engine/front cover. Does anyone have any photos of the installation? I'm having crazy "vapor lock" problems and I believe if I can get the smog pump back on the engine, it will cool the engine bay just enough to stop the "vapor lock". Just for info on the "vapor lock" problem, when the engine gets up to temp, it will "burp" gas out of the carb (usually the front, but sometimes both it the weather is very hot outside) (it runs like a champ in the winter) and while the engine is at driving speed I can usually keep it running by flooring the…

74 260Z will not crank with a key and no electrical power going to the switch at all. I have tried 3 switches I followed the wiring diagrams and color coding after removing a kill switch and external start button. Because it has a Crane ignition nothing is activated. Cranks with a remote starter but not with key and still no juice to the primary. All the connections for the interlock are tied off. This such a simple car and yet I am lost all fuses and fusable links are good. Could it be that yellow wire from the top of the starter that ties into the switch? If I can get power to the switch the Crane system will sense properly and start and hopefully run again.(switch rear…

Has anyone posted detailed instructions on how to install new front wheel bearings? Maybe a video or with pictures? Are there torque specs that need to be taken into consideration. I've tried a search but could not come up with anything. Please help. Thanks.

Is there a list somewhere of which under hood / engine compartment parts came from the factory originally with the yellow cad plating? I have tried searching, but have not been able to find a comprehensive list. Thanks.

I went into my garage to start up my car and it began to run, then the car just turns off and won't even start up anymore. We think it might be because of the fuel pump or the engine because when we try to start it up it will try to run for a while but the smoke isn't black it's more of a whiteish color. Another symptom is that the oil on the dipstick is of a chocolatey color, which means water. The car also misfires a lot. We asked a retired Datsun mechanic what would be the cause of this and he responded that water might have been going in the engine and that the year for the 1978 280z developed a crack in the cylinder head and in order to save the engine we had to drain…

Installing Poly Bushings on a 71 Z. Rear Control Arm Outer Bushing seems really too wide. Looking for tips of how to get the control arm and Stub/Strut Axle assembly together. Should I sand down the bushing equally on both sides (frankly not leaving much of the bushing to remain. Any Thoughts?

OK Z Friends! I need your expertise please...and in a hurry! I have a 1972 240 z that is missing the under the horn pad assembly. I have located one from a 77 280 Z, will it work for my 240z? I will not be using the horn pad from the 77, I will be using my 72 240z horn pad. Thoughts? Will it need modification, or will it just plain not work? If not, anyone know where I can locate just the assembly? I'm right at the finish line with my z being ready, but really need this assembly! I'm attaching a picture of the parts I am looking at from the 77 280z. Ok my fellow Zer's , do your thing! Many thanks!!! K The lil z lady

Hi there my dear z friends! i need your help! You have come through for me on this restoration of my 1972 240z, in so many areas, and I need your help once again! I purchased a z appropriate replacement antenna, we installed it today in prep for the Z bash in LA on Friday. So bummed to learn that the new antenna is bad. i plan to put a proper z antenna in upon return from Z Motorsport or the like... but Id like a working power antenna for the trip. I don't have time to get an antenna shipped in time. Any suggestions as to any chain auto parts or auto stereo places that might carry a power antenna I can use. Such as Oreillys.., etc? I'm in Las Vegas …

Well I just bought this car. It's a 1970 240z with a P79 head and a F54 block out of a 81-83 280zx non turbo. The complete engine was rebuilt less than 6000 miles ago by a very reputable Datsun engine builder, Eiji Hosomi, out of Datsun Spirit. When I bought it the PCV was capped with a freeze plug and there was a breather hose coming off the valve cover. This was smokey and stinky since I've had it. The previous owner said that it had always smoked a little but recently had smoked more. Doing a lot of reading I figured I would uncork the PCV hoping to reduce the blow by coming out of the crankcase and setup a catch can with a breather filter on top. I did just that this …
