Hi all. I recently bought a 260Z as a project car to work on with my son, and I'm having some engine issues. The car definitely needs a paint job and needs a good bit of interior work, but the body is great and has very little rust to speak of. The engine wasn't running when I got it, mostly because of electrical issues with the ignition. The ignition has been corrected and it working properly now. My main problem at this point is that the engine is "blowing back" through the carb at times. I say blowing back because it doesn't really seem like a backfire, although it has backfired through the carb before when the ignition timing was way off. The engine will crank,…

77 280z, 5spd, factory AC. AC works great, but I've got no heat. Bled cooling system again, no air in system as far as I can tell. No overheating issues. I'm thinking blockage somewhere. Probably valve under dash. Visual inspection of valve and it looks pretty good. No evidence of leaks. Bur I guess it could be bad inside. Lack of heat is not a huge deal because I put the car away for winter, but everything else works in car and it kinda bugs me. Any suggestions?

Hey, all! Please forgive my stupidity, but how do you remove the outside parts to a 1977 280Z tail light housing (as shown in this photo)? How do the plastic parts on top (they are the three circular piece on top) come out? Do I have to remove the interior rear plastic piece and undo all the nuts holding the light housing in place? Any help or step-by-step would be much appreciated. I want to sand this piece down and prep it for primer and painting. Thanks!

When I removed these parts, I must have figured they were unique enough to remember where they went, obviously I was wrong. Can anyone help me identify these parts, where they belong on a 1977 280Z? Any assistance is very much appreciated. Parts may not be the original color, I had the some powdered coated black, and painted some others.

Well after rebuilding the head after dropping a valve the car was up an running again. One night a few weeks ago I had let the car warm up and was backing out of my garage when it just stalled out and i haven't been able to get it to restart. When I try to start it the starter just cranks and once in a while there is a loud bang from the tail pipe. I have confirmed spark to all plugs, fuel pressure is around 40psi while cranking, cylinders have compression (thank God) and the battery is fully charged. One odd thing I noticed was that the plugs were dry after trying to start the engine. Shouldn't they be covered in fuel if the injectors are firing? What should I focus my a…

I was going to do the alternator upgrade with the Motorsport alternator upgrade plug but they said won't work on '73 becaused of electic fuel pump. I know some disconnect the electric pump but is there a way to still use it & upgrade. Does it require rewire of fuel pump? Any alternatives? Need to do this upgrade to proceed with the other standard upgrades such as radiator w/fans, updated lighting, & etc. Help deeply appreciated.

Hey everyone. I live in Colorado, and I use my Z as a daily driver. Its a 1983 280zx Turbo, T-tops ect. Recently this winter slid on the ice into a curb at probably about 20 MPH. Moral of the story is driving Z's in the snow sucks. I bent the frame a bit. I have a wrinkle in the frame behind the wheel on the right front side. I can add pictures alter, but I am at work. At first I thought it was the steering rack, but it is just the frame (could be better could be worse) My Z is pretty rust free, but the frame is still a bit of a worry. Would it be recommended to just see what can be done with a standard frame machine? Or should I look into offsetting with a…

I just took my 71 240Z for its first test run after doing an auto to manual tranny swap. Its a 5 speed out of a 78 Z. The push rod on the slave cylinder was too long, and was keeping me from being able to mount it without engaging the fork a little, so I cut about 1/4" off the rod so I could attach it without resistance. Taking off in 1st seems fine, but then as I get into 3rd, 4th, and 5th it slips when I punch the throttle. So I chopped another 1/4" off and it's like it just keeps self adjusting and wont let the clutch fully engage. The clutch and pressure was bought from a guy some time back who said these would work fine for my tranny setup. They were new. Could I ha…

ok guys gonna be a bit of a long post but here we go.. My Z has started to run extremely rough, whenever it gets up to running temp it will start to sputter and backfire from take off and will also seem to die out but suddenly come to life after the backfire and take off. The only thing I have been able to tell is that it only happens when the temperature outside is hot because in the mornings when I go to work the car will drive perfectly. I was talking to a friend about the issue and showed him what it was doing and he mentioned that a vehicle of his had done the same thing and he replaced the ignition control module and it solved the issue but I wanted to see if ther…
