Sm Needles 1 2

Hello all, I recently rebuilt my 3 screw SU carbs on my 240z with the Z therapy kit. It was a good experience. At the same time I installed the MSA premium exhaust. I've noticed a very strong gas smell when driving the vehicle now. Is this normal with the SM needles? From my understanding they were overly rich during idle only? My 240 is basically stock, with the 2.5" exhaust and 280zx distributor coming soon. The smell is so strong I'm thinking of switching back to stock needles because it is so bad. I forget who I spoke to on the phone at Z therapy, but I asked if they were ok for a basically stock engine and they said yes. Secondly, when tuning them, one carb require…

Just manage to follow all the steps to tune my 1972 240z su carburetors including setting the idle mixture knobs 2 turns clockwise and balancing both carbs with fast idle screw to 3,000 RPM. I took the car for a spin and noticed that she hesitates when reaching 4,000 RPM in 1st gear. Could it be running lean? Should i turn the idle mixture knob to 2.5 turns? Please advise what should i do to eliminate this hesitation.

Recently installed a Shneider 274F, changed the timing belt, adjusted the time, and installed SU Carburetors fully rebuilt by Ztherapy. I decided that 1000 RPM as idle was my target but if i get stucked in a traffic jam or leave the engine on for more than 10 minutes, the idle starts to lower to 900 or 800 rpm. If i turn the lights on it lowers more. How can i install an AC System in this car if the idle is not stable. Am i missing something here? is it normal to have this unstable idle with SU CARBS?

Hello all from Australia, Long time browser, first time poster here because I finally can't find the information I'm looking for! First off, my name's Adam and I have a 1973 240z which is currently running a standard L28, N42 head/block combo, with brand new triple 45mm OER carburetors, and Trust headers to a twin 2" exhaust system. I have just installed a new set of OER carbs I purchased from Japan and am having difficulties sorting out the idle/low speed cruise setting. Bit of details into the setup, 45mm carbs 34mm venturis #190 air correctors (not yet tested to see if these are the best) #130 mains #60 idles #40 pump nozzle #1.8 needle valve 3.5psi fuel pre…

Is there any real difference between NGK BPR6ES-11 and BP6ES-11? My 240z has a petronix ignitor installed and sometimes gives me hassles with the current BP6ES which advertise as pre-gapped. Have called many retailers here in Panama and they only have either BP6ES or BPR6ES-11. They dont have BP6ES-11. Can i use NGK BPR6ES-11? US$1.80 a piece!

I have the carbs off for some work and noticed that an air passage has been drilled between runner 1 and 2 but none of the other runners. This probably why I've had a hard time balancing the No#1 carb in the past. So while I have it off the car I would like to plug it, but with what? I could drill out the end plug and tap threads but only want to that as a last resort. JB Weld and Silicone gasket maker will both break down eventually with contact with gasoline, maybe a neoprene plug of some kind. I'm open to any ideas. Thanks, Chris

At long last we have the newly manufactured (for us) Z car floats in house ready for sale. The ZT-100 Reman will include the new floats. Sold individually they are $30 each. Float pivot pins are $1.00 and float bowl lid gaskets are $2.00. Don't forget to include these items with your order if you need them. We also have new composite free floating floats for the 38 mm Hitachis. The 38 mm float pricing remains at the $30 level where they have been for several years. Hello everyone, this is going to be a long post with many pictures, but I'm at a crossroads with my triples and I'm hoping someone here can suggest the best way forward. It's a long story, so here goes... A while back, a friend and I took a lot of time and tuned up my engine from top to bottom. I have triple Weber DCOE 45's, and we tweaked the idle jets until it hummed. Bottom line, when we were done the car still ran rich, but there was no hesitation, plenty of ooomph, and all was good. The mixture screws were set at 2.25 turns out when we were done, and we were happy. Very happy. (Before this, by the way, I had dialed in the float, seals, etc. and done a complete ov…

Appreciate some help here - Still sorting out performance issues w/ my 72 240z - has the stock SU carb set up - air injection system is disconnected and all vacuum ports capped. The car did not have the vacuum motor that controls the throttle opener vacuum dashpot. The car consistently stalls after blipping the throttle, or coming to a stop after driving, but will start back up immediately. Work around is to set idle at 1200 RPM. Does this device need to be operational (slow down throttle closing) to prevent the stalling? If so - where can find the components?

Does anyone know of a quiet 4 psi fuel pump? I have the RX7 pump installed at the moment and although they claim that it's 4psi it is more like 2 which in my case lets the bowls empty by the end of the quarter mile strip. Thanks, Chris

Hi guys, i'm just rebuilding my first set of SU's (and carbs in general), and I have a question about adjust the float. I've sent an email to Bruce @ Ztherapy, and I am waiting a reply but I know you guys can be pretty quick so i've posted here as well. The reason i'm concerned is that my Z was running decently prior to disassembly, and now following the instructions for proper float adjustment i've have to make some decent changes to the float to get it within spec. Here's the video, and let me know if i'm doing this correct. I'm also experiencing some stiction when close the valve, I assume moving the valve lower with some washers should help. How many can I add…

Hey Guys, I have been slowly restoring my 72 Z in Jamaica and I am now refreshing the stock 3 screw SUs. I disassembled them to change the gaskets and it appears that the dipsticks do not have the plungers, washer or snap clip attached to them. I have no clue why this is the case as the car was not running when I purchased it. I will take a pic later when I reach home just to be sure but from all I have seen on the net the dipsticks look a bit lacking. If this is correct then I am in need of a pair of complete dipsticks if anyone can spare. Thanks in advance.
