hi guys, I have a 2.9 stroker motor in my z. I have a flat spot under light throttle with load, it sings under WOT and idles and revs perfectly fine. the problem is a consistent flat spot where the car feels like it doesn't want to go any faster, it lacks response and torque unless you push the pedal through the trouble area. unfortunately, this flat spot is almost exactly where the car cruises on the highway, so it hates highway trips unless i'm climbing a hills and use more pedal than normal cruise. -Upgraded 240z dizzy points to electronic pickup, running stock 240z coil at 9v -F54 block with flat top pistons -N42 head Timing is set to 36 degrees total with vac advance…

1972 240Z - dual round top SU's My new '72 is running rough, I thought I'd start with checking the timing. I am borrowing my neighbours basic timing ligth tonight. The FSM manual says teh timing should be set to 17 degrees @ 550 rpm. When warm my car idles around 850-900 rpm, do I adjust simply adjust the idle down on the carbs first? 550 seems really low. Thanks, Steve

For those who have converted away from the mechanical linkage over to a throttle cable, I'm curious what anchor point you used on your SU carbs. Specifically did you mount a throttle wheel to the linkage or did you create some other form of connection? I'm just starting to do my homework as I'm not thrilled with the mechanical linkage. Any suggestions/pictures you have would be appreciated. Thanks!

260z So i've been reading around and have been able to take care of a few issues that came up since i bought the car (about 5 days ago) On the ride back from where i picked it up it ran fine for about 80 or so miles. Then it just started to bogg down and even back fired a bit. I'd cruse at 60 or so and if i tried to accelerate it would stumble and chug like i was running out of gas. So i limped off the side of the road and thus started my fuel issues. To sum up the events that followed... The car stopped getting fuel and i determined that the electric fuel pump was to blame. I first tried to bypass the electric pump because i read that i could run on just the mech to get…

I have this weird issue. Installed set of SK carbs this spring and had the tuned by pro. Been driving since with no problems until now, i cannot accelerate properly because one of the cylinders drop out around 3000 rpms. I have renewed all the plugs plus wires are only year old. Im also running no-points ignition so that is not the problem. To me it feels like it could be carb related, but also could be fuel related issue. I dont really know. I have holley regulator and i have cut down that pressure a bit, but do not know the pressure in system, because i dont have gauge for that. All help appreciated.

I swapped out my new su carbs from z therapy for the 73 flat tops. A little confused on the heating hose which comes out of the engine and runs thru the carbs for warming. 1- Is there a sensor placed in this in this line? ( pic shows blue hose from engine to carb metal line). 2-Also , I see engines without the heat shield, do I need to replace? 3- the engine has been overheating in about 15 minutes and the mechanic can't find anything for cause. Thanks, Brian

I just purchased a fairly cheap set of SK Racing (not oer) carbs with 62mm horns. They look good and are all intact. My first idea was to put them to my Z but i need money now more than ever...I wonder what these are worth? Not many around and Made In Japan. That should say something about the quality.

Hey guys, just a reminder that if you have cores that you need to return to ZTherapy for credit but you are maybe thinking it's too late, call me or better yet just slip a note in with them to Pam and send 'em. This goes for nozzles as well. Any additionals floating around out the for sale, let me know and I'll be glad to hook you up with the owners....

Hey guys, I have a 11 of 73 260z so it is a 74. When I got the car, it had hitachi flat tops on and after going through all the tests weather or not if I had spark, getting fuel to the carbs, etc... I have a really usefully manual that belongs to my dad, he was the one who got me into Z cars. Anyways, I got a pair of SU round tops of an 72 240z, my dad said that once I get them, and put them on the car should start right up. After putting them on and going through all the tests again, the right carb is getting fuel in the float, but the left carb is a total different story, I cleaned it out and put it back together, but no matter what I do it does not get gas. The only wa…

The preferred carburetor of classiczcars and S30's all over the world! Ive run used SU's and ZTherapy SU's but they have never come close to the level of performance that my car was on when it had the 4bbl on it (when I first got the car). Ive got a close ratio 5sp, cam, clifford header, and a Crane XR700 ignition so it was pretty fast with the SU's but the 390cfm takes it to another level. Lightning fast startups with the electric choke is the cherry on top since this is a NE car and my daily driver(and only car!). I have the cartech adapter bolted onto the SU manifold but I have a BSR manifold on the way which should be a more permanent setup. Definitely not the fas…

1978 280Z, Holley 4160 (pn 8007, 390cfm), Arizona Z intake manifold I'm having trouble getting the car to run at 800RPM. I have the timing set at 10deg (I tried 15, but maybe did something wrong, because the idle could not get very low at all when the timing was that high). The idle mixture screws are at about 1 turn out, and the idle screw is about half a turn in (any less and it ceases to move the throttle at all). Since the idle screw is basically all the way out, I've been adjusting the mixture screws with vacuum hooked up. The lowest I can get it without the engine almost dying and then surging is about 900-950RPM. That produces about 16-17 in/Hg of manifold vacuum. …

I have a few questions for my 1978 280Z with a Holley 4160 (390cfm, pn 8007, arizona z intake). I'm new to carburetors in general, so I would really appreciate any help or at least pointing me in the right direction. 1. Does timing stay the same? (10 degrees at idle) 2. Does idle say the same? (800RPM) 3. Is there a need to rejet? I believe mine has already been rejetted about 2 sizes down from stock, but I can't verify because I want to avoid opening it at this point. Right now the car actually runs all right. It starts fine with the electronic choke and the fast idle keeps it at 1500 or so. However, it idles around 1000 (and if I try to lower it, it starts to run rough …
