Hi guys, I have a 72 240z, I have a carter 2-4 pound pump installed and ready to go at the back of the car. but I've run into a hitch. When I try to close the circuit with an inline fuse (left of the fuse box, green/black wires that were taped to the harness with blue tape) it blows the fuse when i turn the ignition on. The pump works fine when wired direct to power. so I have no idea what is going on. When i check the plug that was secured with blue tape with a volt meter, it read's 12.2 volts. as I understand it, this should not be a grounded plug, it is supposed to carry power from the black wire to the green wire with a fuse. Am i missing something here? my car wont g…

After setting floats, removed the rear banjo bolt to get the hose barb at a better angle. Afterward it leaked. Leaned on the wrench until it was only a tiny leak, it didn't drip but it felt slightly damp. So today, finally fixed the leak I think. Used two composition washers from the carb tune-up kit from MSA, don't know if that's what they're for but they fit. Also used the aluminum washers that were on there, on the outer ends. It still leaked until I sanded both sides of the inner aluminum washer. Still had to use what seems like too much torque (but not as much as I used last time) to get it to stop leaking. Something's wrong there. Are there some other washers I sh…

I have a set of Weber 45 DCOE 15/16 on my 2000 roadster. Okay I know it is not Z related, but the topic of tuning webers is near and dear to our heart, and the Roadster guys seem to have the Mikuni or go home mantra rolling. My biggest issue is with the idle jets I think. A little background first. My 2000 has a B cam in it (which is suited for solex/weber/mikuni), and has a bit more compression than stock, say 10:1. The front carb is a 45 DCOE 15 and the back is a 45 DCOE 16. Apparently this combo 15/16 was popular on BMW's so I am not so worried about it. The progressoin holes look identical on them as far as I can tell. Not sure what chokes are in the body of the…

I noticed that once the float is adjusted to near the factory setting, which makes the bowl about half full, any further adjustment will make it overflow. Make a very small change of the tang on the float, and there's a small change in fuel level. Make another small change there's a large change in fuel level and the bowl overflows. Using a sight glass to check fuel level. Maybe the float is hitting the side of the bowl so it can't go higher and close the valve. I straightened up the float so it wouldn't do that, but it hasn't helped. I though of sanding the float, but that might make it soak up gas. I thought of a way to see if it's hitting, I'll try it today. But I wond…

Just received and installed both twin Hitachi HJG46W on my 1972 Datsun 240z. Due to the fact that my car has a FAR 311 Race Cam the mechanic set the idle speed to 1,000 to 1,100 RPM. After installation the car seems to loose power when shifting from 1st to second gear. Do i need to adjust the idle adjust nut in the bottom of both carburetors? how many turns?

While working on a set of gummed up carbs, one of the tubes came out of the feed nozzle. Yes, really gummed up. Is it an interference fit or does it need some kind of adhesive or cement to keep the nozzle in the feed nozzle? The first carb went well and ready to put back on the car.

I finally posted a write up and pictures of my throttle linkage replacement with a Mr Gasket universal cable. The results are great, and the key was the throttle arm that I was able to source from speedway motors. Enjoy! Dave's 1972 Datsun 240z: Throttle Jerk Fix

Despite my best efforts, i cannot seem to get them to run as one would hope they should. At hard throttle, i have zero issue, and at idle and very light throttle, i have no issue, but part throttle cruise just starts to burble and pop, like it must be over fueling or something. With application of carb stray to the throttle shaft, you can hear a slight rpm change, and have begun to think that its air leaking past and changing the mix for me as I drive. I have done the whole all the way in, 2.5 turns out thing, there is proper oil, they are equal flow at 1500 rpm, but they just start bogging till i push through. Could I doubt highly the dashpots are getting hung up, but i…

I am in the process of swapping to carbs, and could use some expertise..... So far I've boiled out the fuel tank, replaced all of the old rubber lines, and have circulated a gallon of injector cleaner through the three front to back steel lines for a couple days to get rid of all the old fuel lacquer. I picked up a NOS pump from a Carb'd RX7, and new inline fueltank to pump filter. The existing fuel pump is not original...... and does not have the check valve in question..... Looking at carpartsmanual.com - Section - "" From aug-'76 "" ( Fuel Pump and Fuel Hose ) Item #20 indicates - ""Kit-ValveCheck"" PN:17014-N4225 Question: Should there be …

I just scored a couple of remanufactured Hitachi SU Carbs for my 240z. My former front carburetor was really worn and burning the spark plugs. I have a Far 311 New race cam and would need to purchase a couple of performance jets for both of these Hitachi carburetors. Who sells these jets? Black Dragon? EBAY?
