Hello everyone, I saw this back panel of an air cleaner box on ebay and noticed it had a choke cable holder arm that is not on my Z. I was wondering if all Zs had them or if it was year specific? I did a quick check and my '72 didn't seem to have a mounting bracket for it. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I flipped the switch over today. Seems much more responsive to my foot against the gas pedal.

Got some rubber caps to temporarily plug the pipes, pulled the short hose off the lower thermostat housing. Now, my coolant is new and green, but what came out was a few drops of brownish corrosion. The 1/2" hose barb was corroded. Pulled the other end of the hose off at the intake manifold. That hose barb was totally plugged with some grey-green gunk. Looks like no water flowed through there for a long time. I'm guessing the gunk is stop leak put in by the PO (flushed the engine three times when I got the car a few years ago, to get rid of the gunk) , plus coolant residue and rust. Then I cut the short rubber hose that connects the rear of the intake manifold to the …

Okay we run air filters, and fuel filters all day long. WE clean them and we obsess over them. But the part that I baffles me is why do we kill ourselves when the front of the Weber has a 12mm hole in it that lets air in for the idle circuit to work. THat is unfiltered air. WE do not even try to filter that air. When I recently removed my webers and cleaned them there was DIRT in the very bottom of the bowls. DIRT. I removed it and all is well, but why do we never make an effort to filter the air coming in that huge gaping hole.

Throttle control on my car is difficult at low rpm (off-throttle to on-throttle transitions). It's digital; on or off. I've lubricated all of the ball joints and linkages at the carbs with white grease to no avail. This weekend I'm going to replace the throttle boot so I figure this is a good opportunity to ensure that the linkage is set-up and adjusted correctly. I've consulted the FSM and have found the following info: 1. Adjust the Tension Rod on the engine side of the firewall between the bell crank and Torsion Shaft to 7-3/16" 2. Adjust the interior Tension Rod between the throttle and bell crank to 4-1/4" Is there any tribal knowledge beyond this that might be usefu…

73 Z with SU's. The water tube that goes between the front and rear E-36 intakes has a leak where it meets the rear manifold. There are hex nuts at each end of the tube. Don't know much about it so don't want to mess it up worse. Want to keep using the water tube. It's a small leak but I want to fix it before it gets worse. Temporary and/or permanent fix?

Hi all, the car seem to run well. It's not on the road so I just run it in the driveway on the weekends as I put it back together. It should be on the road in the next week or two and I don’t like gas leaks. I put new gaskets in the carb's and cleaned them as well as I could this past winter. The car has not been on the road for 29 years but the refresh is almost complete. They dripped a little from the intake the day I got the Webers brand new in 1978 but it never stopped me then. In my old age I do not want to drive it with any gas leak. When I turn it off for the day I'm getting a slow drip of gas from the air filters. Can anyone help me locate and fix the problem?…

Hey guys. I would like some advice on what I believe to be a Mikuni jetting or tuning issue. Sorry it’s long but here goes… The issue is as consistent as clockwork. At our local AutoX events, we do 3 runs in the morning (day 1) and 3 runs in the afternoon for (day 2). On warm or hot weather events the following occurs: 1st Run – Car runs excellent 2nd Run – Have trouble launching off idle at the starting line, once going 10+mph the car runs excellent 3rd Run – Slightly erratic idle, hard to launch, once going 10+ mph the car runs excellent Lunch Break (Cool Down) 4th Run – Car runs excellent 5th Run – Have trouble launching off idle at the starting line…

These were in the back of my parts car. I thought they were sss1800 flat tops, but I found a thread where Bruce Palmer referred to the sss1800 carbs as 38mm, and I measured the inlet at 36mm... Can anyone positively identify them? I can take more pictures and measurements if necessary. They were mounted to a pair of E41 intake manifolds with a N30 balance tube. It seems the previous owner intended to use them on the 240z, but I don't know if 36mm carbs could provide enough airflow to an l24 in the higher rpm range. If anyone can answer these questions or provide me with some insights as to what exactly I have and what I might be able do with them I would greatly appreciat…

Anyone successfully use one of these for tuning the carbs? Bought a gen-tech IR on sale at Harbor Freight, tried it out a couple times. I'm running SU's on a 240 with stock exhaust manifold. I can see it would work better with headers. You can get a good shot at the first and last exhaust runners about 2 inches from the head, the 2 middle ones are obstructed by the intake so you can only take it's temp very close to the head. Noticed the front is about 100 F lower than the rear one so maybe the rear carb is lean? I know the manifold is open inside so I guess it wouldn't help to check the down pipes. How close to the manifold should I be holding the gun? Noticed it …

I was rooting around in the old threads here in the forum and came across more than one post that said that, for the most part, you really don't need to choke Weber carbs. The entries were from a few years back and I was wondering if that is still the consensus. Also, if anyone has a '73 240z with triple Webers, I'd be interested to see how you've got the choke cable hooked-up. Thanks!
