Just recently got into a 240z '72. 280 motor installed, but original '72 3 screw round top SUs. Drove it for a bit to find that it was well tuned to be at high idle. I believe this is to have the ol' girl stay running. I then had to ring a friend to grab me, as I was on the side of the road!! All this to say that, I rebuilt the SUs brought them back to spec and reinstalled( cleanest part in the engine bay ) got her running at high idle, but have a loud slapping noise coming from the front SU! was thinking that it might the mixture but no matter what I do it still there!! any suggestions

I have a 240Z with an L28 running a carbed L24 head. The car has been running fat for a long time now, but has gotten progressively worse in the last year. I know the carbs need to be cleaned or rebuilt (or replaced), and calibrated. However, I admittedly know next to nothing about working on carburetors. I worked in a shop for 6 years. Ive torn apart, rebuilt, and swapped fuel injected engines many times...Ive never played around with carbs. Is there a shop in the SoCal area that does good carb work? I know many of you say that tuning up the carbs is one of the easiest things to do on a Z, but between work and school I dont have a ton of time to dive into learning intric…

new thread it is! i had a buddy come down and wrench on my Z a bit, and he knows holley's so he could give me some insight. guess i have the quick change vaccuum secondary's. so we popped the cap and found the diaphram torn in a few places. swapped that, and it ran soo much better. still a bit of stumbling, but we didn't check float levels or anything of that sort since we were at 3k above sea level, and the Z's new home is about 6k. need to sort out the new leaking brake master and my clutch leak as well. then the carb gets rebuilt and tuned. so far i am happy with it tho. its such a great feeling when the secondary's open up!

I am converting a maxima EFI head to carb application. I wanted to fill the injector holes. I am thinking of using JB Weld like i had seen done by a bike racer who filled runners and reshaped to increase velocity. My only worry is the head expanding and the fill dropping out in the future. Any recommendations/suggestions/ experience? - to fill or not to fill that is just one question I figured that grinding some ruts in the hole area will help the JB weld grab.

Hello everyone.. I have just ordered the K&N filters for my 1972 240z. My question is: What will I run into when installing these in place of my stock air box (any lines that need to be moved or additional filter I need to buy)? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I was wondering what the best option would be? I currenntly have flattop carbs, but I was wondering if it really is worth getting them rebuilt by ztherapy. Otherwise the next cheapest solution is a new pair of weber dgv's, which I heard are not as good as su's, but I have only seen them compared to roundtops. I could get roundtops, but I have not been able to find the full setup, and then I would have to probably get those rebuilt. I have a 1973 240z with and L28, and I am on a very tight budget. Thank you for your help!

Check out this set-up currently on Ebay. Did any JDM S30's ever come equipped with this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-L6-240Z-260Z-810-L24-L26-4-barrel-carb-manifold_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36474QQitemZ8064000945QQrdZ1

Possibly answered on the forum but I couldn't find it. My 1973 has ZTherapy carbs & a new choke cable assembly. I had my mechanic reposition the choke lever off of the plastic center console and onto the tranny tunnel. Prior to this work, when I moved the choke lever all the way back it would raise my idle speed (which I need when the car is cold - otherwise she wants to die); now moving the choke lever doesn't affect idle speed. My $1,000,000 question - SHOULD the choke lever also raise the idle speed (meaning that he didn't correctly adjust the choke cables)?

http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/TripleSUs.htm I must admit that I am still only in the theoretical stages of my z car build. my 1972 240z is a nearly stock daily driver. I found the above website very intersting and was wondering if anyone out there new if a six carb setup could be found or if it is something that will have to be entirely custom fab work.

Hi, I was wondering what the pros and cons are to running the single downdraft setup? Also anyone out there who actually runs that system, just whether they like the setup. In the past I had run a dual downdraft weber setup and had issues with the car surging and was told that the issue was the gas pooling in the base of the intake manifolds and then when I stepped on it, it would suck up all that extra gas. Since switching to the dual su setup I haven't had the issue, but I'm getting tired of them not running right after the car sits for a while. thanks, Brian

Hi all, First, I will say that I still need to do all of the base tuning on the carbs, but I think that I have another issue. I am hoping (and assuming) that this is something simple. I am just not very good with the "dual carb" thing yet... Quick Summary - 1971 240Z - Mechanical pump removed - Electric pump installed on frame rail near tank - Brand new L28 - Brand new Z-Therapy SU's - Maybe 1 hour of run time total - E12-80 Electronic disti with MSD Coil - Current Fuel Pump = New Carter P4070 - 6PSI - Routing = Tank --> In-Line Fuel Filter --> Fuel Pump --> Lines --> Front Fuel Filter --> In Line FP Gauge --> Carb Feeded Line --> Carbs -…

Are these 3 screw carbs for the early cars? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-early-SU-carburetors-/220740326878?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item33652615de Over what period of time were 3 screw carbs used? I thought someone might be interested in these... Thanks, Charles
