so I'm gonna go with a ztherapy SU carb swap on my 71. this poses some removal options with the smog and balance tube, I think. I'm still confused as to what is smog and what is water circ.... my air galley pipe looks like a long stretched out turd.... (read rust) I'd like to make it go away if possible. 1> I had thoughts of getting the MSA header with exhaust upgrade... so will this help in the desmogging process? as far as fittings for the oem header and rust..etc? 2> I haven't found a desmogging for dummies tutorial out there yet... is there one or something close to it? 3> I would prefer to remove the air pump, and other associated smog stuff....I can f…

Just got the new fuel sending unit for my 240Z. Looks kind of long. Do you need to drop the tank to get this rascal in or can it be finagled into the tank while it is in place?

I have been adjusting the SU carbs only to find that at times the fuel/air mixture "backfires" and is ejected out of the throat of the carburetors. I just rebuilt the carbs and field adjusted the float tabs. Also, I went to Autozone and replaced the rubber tubing from the float bowl to the jet. The new tubing has a somewhat smaller inside diameter than the originals. Could this be my problem?

While I was rebuilding the SU carbs, I did something totally dumb! I dropped the dash pot plunger on the needle bending it! The world shook as I yelled every curse I could think of. Now that I managed to gather my composer, where can I find 2 new needles and jets for a early 1972, 3 screw system? I want to get a Ztherapy set up but the money, theres not enough! I well save my cash contact them in a year or so but for now, where can I get some needles and jets? Thanks all! Polecat

Hi everyone, OK, we must be nuts, but there's a little 1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500 that we're considering buying. It's a resto project that had caused a major fight between the owner and his wife. (Must go, sacrifice, etc.) We used to have our BMW Z3 roadster, and my partner sorely misses having a convertable. Anyway this would fill that niche. To my question: The original Zenith-Stromberg carb was ditched and replaced with a Weber. I don't know what kind of Weber. It appears to be a down-draft (perhaps 32/36 DGEV) from the poorly detailed photo, but it could almost as easily be a side draft. I assume whether this car runs well or not will depend mostly on the …

Whilst perusing the local kijiji ads in my neck of the woods this morning, I came across this "lovely" (cough cough) specimen of a 73. http://regina.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1973-Datsun-Z-Series-Hatchback-W0QQAdIdZ243202306 What is interesting is the carb substitution seen in attached picture. Anyone know what those came from? They have the visual cues of SU/Hitachi ' ishness, but clearly aren't the usual culprits. Mostly I'm trying to decide if they are a suitable for our application. The car appears to be not running from the text of the ad, and of course makes you wonder if there more of a reason than the need for a battery and fuel lines.... Any …

OK just picked up this 71 and noticed that the adjuster on the front carb seems to be missing a spring on the lever opposite of where the adjustment screw is. I am pointing to the hole where I believe one end of the spring goes. my question is "where does the other end of the spring go" I assume somewhere above the lever to cause tension but don't know much about carbs so thought I would ask someone who does. looked at a ton of pics on this forum but cant seem to find one close enough up from the right angle...thanks in advance...also do I need to take the whole air cleaner box off to identify what type carbs they are or can it be recognized by the pics below?

OK, up front let me say that both my 4 screw SUs have vacuum leaks, have done the leak test and confirmed that there are issues. As I am waiting to accumulate the necessary funds to have Z Therapy work their magic on my carbs, am trying to balance as close as I can get. My front carb allows me to adjust the idle down but my back carb only goes down so far. I can balance both at about 1300 rpm, no lower. I turn the idle screw down on my back carb and it will not go below a certain level. I have cleaned both carbs and adjusted the floats accordingly, as well as lubed the linkage. Just want to confirm that there is nothing else I can do to get the idle down, until I ge…

My car smokes a blue fuel smelling exhaust. I am thinking of buying the z therapy rebuilt kit and trying my hand at doing it myself. Has anybody used this kit and what was your level of success. Is it easy to use and does it cover how to adjust the floats Thanks Glenn

I have had my Z therapy carbs on my car for a while and quite frankly they are wonderful. I have had this issue that I wonder if people can shed some light on. If I take my car out for a romp, during the first 15 minutes of driving when I rev it to 4500 slowly it pops at times through the exhaust. But if I step on it and quickly rev it, meaning I do not dwell at 4500 rpm it revs just fine and pulls hard to 6500. Now, if I keep driving around for an extended period of time this occasional popping goes completely away and I can rev smoothly through 4500 with no issues at all. I can even dwell at 4500 rpm with no issues. I wonder at times, if this is due to the manifold…

Can anyone tell me where the hoses for the fuel system go on the fuel tank and the vapor canister located in rear wheelwell behind the plastic panel. I removed these lines and hoses a few years ago when i deleted the fuel tank and went to fuel cell. now i am putting an original fuel tank back in place. need to hook up the fuel hoses and vapor lines. Was there a charcoal canister on this model when it was manufactured??? It is a low pressure system since it is 302 carbureted motor. it is a 75 500Z (280 Z with a 302 or 5.0 FORD motor)
