Ive got a 75 280z with Triple webers on it and i cant for the life of me get it to run right. It idles great at 800-1000 but anything between 1000-2000 is death and after that it just wants to go go go with a little hesitation here and there. Ive seafoamed / carb cleaned the car best i can and replaced all fluid / sparks. If anyone in the area has experience with these carbs and can tell me if i need an allout rebuild or such i would highly appreciate the help. Free meal and 12 pack of beer on me for any and all help. Thanks so much Rob

I just completed my SU converson on my 1975 280Z. I have the 3 screw round tops and could use some advise Upon starting the car, I find that the front three cylinders (Front Carb) are not working in that when I pull the plug wire out, the engine continues to idle without stumbling. When I pull the plug wire out for the other 3 cylinders, the engine stumbles. When I spray carb cleaner in the front carb, the engine begins to idle normal. When I push the piston up in the front carb, the engine does not die. When I push the piston up in the rear carb, the engine stumbles or dies. When I push the choke for the front carb, the engine idle picks up. The mixture nut on the n…

I get a slight fuel smell coming into the cabin from the engine compartment when I gun it hard, and then release the throttle. I've made sure the floats are right, the float gaskets are new, and the carbs are adjusted perfectly, at least in my mind. The car runs great, idles smooth, no problems. To simulate what happens, I took off the air cleaners, reved the motor up, then covered a carb mouth with my hand. I was rewarded with a splash of fuel into my hand. Its like the needle doesn't drop down fast enough to shut off the fuel when the air is throttled. I took off the domes and cleaned the insides, to make sure they slide smoothly. This might just be how these thi…

Some Hitachi SU's and Intakes have coolant ports. I notice that the latter ones do not. Is there any advantage to it or not. Also , can a SU carb with the coolant ports be put on a non coolant intake and visa versa. thanks Al

So I'm having some real trouble with my SU's. Ever since I got my headers and exhaust put on, my car hasn't been running super smoth. It ran like a top previously. I attributed the poorer running to the exhaust guys likely messing up the carb settings when they removed it all to put on my headers and not properly tuning them when they were put back on. So in anticipation of tuning the carbs myself, I replaced the spark plugs. The car had been running very rich (noticable exhaust visible, soot on tailpipes and garage wall, and gasoline/water on the ground behind the pipes when warming the car up) and I figured the plugs could stand to be replaced. I was correct, as all but…

I purchased a couple of GP Sorensen 72 SU carb rebuild kits and managed to use all, but one of the gaskets. I did some digging around in my manuals and in the instructions, but don't see where this one will go. Does one go in the nozzle assembly? That is about the only place untouched so far. I changed the gasket on the dipstick, 2 on the fuel screen filler pipe, the float valve, and float bowl drain. I didn't change the plastic washer on the slide in the dome, but at least I know about that one. I can't find the link to the instructions, but if need be I can highlight the installed items later and measure the left over gasket when I get home over lunch. Thanks

I am new to z cars but not to cars. I am new to this forum so if this is in the wrong place let me know. My car is an early 74 260 with a 280 block an e31 heads, cam, large valves and 4screw su's. I bought a beck arnly major rebuild kit for the carbs. It came with two sets of the long mixture needles numbers on them are nwj1 on two and nwj2 on two of them. Does anyone know what those numbers are I cannot find any reference to them an any su sites. They are shorter than the needles that came with the carbs and those have no markings. Any help would be great:)

Hey guys, I don't post much here since I'm no mechanic, and there are so many more knowledgeable folks out there, but I had an experience today (and about 20 years ago) that I wanted to relate since I didn't see anything about it when I did a search. Problem: your carbureted 240Z cuts out / stalls suddenly when you're driving around, usually shortly after your fuel goes below 1/2 tank. Otherwise, at the beginning of your drive, it starts up just fine, seems to run fine. But get below 1/2 tank, and at some point it just cuts out, stalls, and refuses to re-start. Cranks over fine, but won't fire. You check the simple things. Spark and fuel. Spark looks ok. Check the fuel…

I just had a nice email conversation with Todd @ Wolf Creek Racing about a Mikuni PHH setup. Just want to say his good reputation on these message boards is well deserved. On to my question and curiosity. I have spent the last couple days searching here and hybridZ for threads on the Mikuni's. They run the gambit but I failed to notice anyone talking about how our cars are to drive with a set of triple sidedrafts. I've seen threads about bogs and needing help but not many come back with a resolution and review. When things are tuned and in good working order, what are these things like to drive? Say I want to to drive to work a couple days in mixed traffic. Will I be p…

Does anybody know the paint color code of the orange used to paint the original air cleaner of a '70 240z? And, where I can get that paint? Thanks.
