Hi there, I've just finished building a new four barrel carburettor for my next development phase on my L28. The Holley originally started off as a 'run of the mill' 450 cfm (list 4548) vacuum secondary four barrel. Since then, it has been extensively modified and upgraded to suit my requirements. Some of the features it has are: 4 corner idle mixture adjustment Downleg booster venturis Electric choke Reworked metering blocks to include adjustable power valve channel restriction and idle/off idle circuits via screw in jets Percy's adjustable metering blocks for primary and secondary main fuel Centre hung fuel bowls Quick change secondary spring unit and A blend…

Hello all, I am new to the Club. I recently got my first car back, a 73 240. The engine was built fairly well but hasn't run in the last 8 years. I recently started to try to get it running. The compression is between 165 and 182 psi. I drained the 8 year old gas out of the tank, purged the fuel lines, replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs and checked for spark. I believe the problem lies in carberation. It has the triple Makuni's on it and I am looking for the best place to get the rebuild kits. I believe I have identified mine correctly as the type 5 (5 screw) model. Additionally, I was wondering how the Holley carb compares to the tripple webber. (My Z is naturally…

I can't even begin to guess what the PO of my car was thinking when he mangled the fuel filler and fuel filler cavity. Perhaps the white platstic connector between the fuel filler and the hose that goes to the evap tank was cracked or lost, but why cut up the body? The full filler tube is removed from below for God's sake! Time to buy a MIG welder and learn to weld....... Also, it looks like someone got creative in filling a hole in the top of the gas tank. I found the detail in the last pic while prepping my tank for POR15. This is on the upper left front corner of the tank. Based on the originality of the paint on the tank including this area, I'd guess that this was d…

I was looking at some extra 240Z fuel rails I have and noticed that there appear to be three versions. Pictures and descriptions of each are shown below with differences highlighted in bold. 1. (closest to camera) 1969 to early 1970? My 1969 production cars have this version. The bracket on the square post at the back end (right side of pictures) wraps around two sides of the post. The second post from the back is only about 4" away. The two fuel line sections between the back posts are straight. The metal tab that separates the two fuel lines at the front of the fuel rail is mounted on the outside. 2. (middle) later 1970? The bracket on the square post at the …

I'm redoing my fuel system, and debating whether or not I should do away with the evap tank (nissan calls it the reserve tank). I have read that people dont have a problem doing it. Im not really worried about keeping the car origional. I like the idea because there is less piping to replace, and its much cleaner. What do you think, what are the pros and cons? Here is what I would be doing http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19034&highlight=fuel+vent

On my 260z, the choke cables pass over the valve cover and attach to the carbs. I want to route them simular to the early 240's where they run along the drivers side of the engine. Has anyone done this? If so, how? Did you need to drill a new hole? Also, could someone measure the length of their choke cables for the early 240's. Thank you, Skip Dawson

Going to get into the carbs a bit, but I'm kinda scared, knowing nothing about them. I have a big bucket of that parts/carb cleaner, and a can of the spray stuff. I'm sure most of you know this, but these are the kind of carbs I have; http://paltech1.com/db5/00485/paltech1.com/_uimages/240ZCarbs001.jpg I want to use the parts dip but I don't want to melt any gaskets, rings, or hoses inside. How..."Apart" does a carb get? Or is the spray good enough? Thanks. Edit: Ok started to take off the mounting bolts, only to find what looks to be coolant pour out. Guess I'm not taking it off at that point...Don't know why coolant is that close to the carbs either. Or oil. Why is the…

Hey Z member's, I'm having SU issue's and I'm going nut's trying to figure it out. My 280Z has rebuilt SU 4 bolt round top's. Last weekend I replaced some fuel line's, installed a low pressure electric fuel pump and my 280 fired right up! This weekend it wouldn't start. The first thing I noticed was no fuel coming through the return line after the carb's. So i banged on the side of my SU's with a small hammer (lightly) and it seem to free up whatever was blocking it or stuck. Fuel slightly started to leak out the front of the carb's. But this meant to me that there was to much fuel pressure. The car start's up but die's at idle, it does fire well when gas pedal is applied…

from searching these the setups I have found so far. setup 1- filter > FPR > inline, but no return fuel line. setup 2- filter > FPR > inline with return fuel line(i read some where that this can go in in reverse flow too) setup 3- filter > FPR > 3way splitter with no return line setup 4- uses stock rails flow in from rail>FPR than other return line. which setup is best for a l28, electric pump, filter between tank and pump, filter between pump and FPR or if you have better suggestion on fuel line setup that i did not illustrate id like to hear it

I have been doing some searching but not finding anything specific to my current situation. I'm replacing the L2.4 engine in the '72 240 I bought last summer from my friend. He had installed a 4 barrel carb intake with a carb that was too large (600CFM) and it got stuck open and over reved the engine causing major internal damage. So... I picked up a '75 280z engine with the fuel injection intake on it. I want to pull of the FI and install SU carbs (after reading opinions here on the site). I now have 3 different pairs of SU carbs and intakes (don't ask). They all seem to have different intake headers and spacing and I'm sure they all will need a little TLC so I intend…

I picked up the an early 74 260Z yesterday. It has Dual Webers DGV 32/36. It was idling good but rich and the timing was off a bit when I picked it up but on the way home it started sputtering in 3rd gear, then stalled then backfired a fireball which scared the hell out of me. I couldn't get it to idle at all after that, had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from stalling. With my limited knowledge of carbs I didn't want to touch them however some old guys stopped by and tried to help, but didn't. So as a last resort I called the previous owner and asked him for some help. He came over and after a few hours narrowed the problem down to carbs. The previous owner …
