I just got in the under carb tray from http://www.zccjdm.com and I have to say this is top notch. This setup is with a Cannon manifold and the pan fit perfect with Dellortos, which have the under body accelerator pump arms. On top of that I have the Datsun comp header, which fits great but the last 4 tubes do extend out a bit far making it tough to get any kind of clearance from the bottom of the carbs. I"m not sure if the short manifold will work yet but I will try it out this weekend. Here's a pic.

We're talking about a 1973 Datsun 240Z. Some background on the car. An old man/ dealer had bought the car at a show 12 years ago. He drove it home some eight hour drive, then stored it for the last eleven years. His people had been working on it some when I happened upon it. He sold it to me after I talked to him for some time about it. I was told they had been having problems keeping it running. Then they figured out it was trash in the tank. They had finally swapped the tank for a so-called refurbished tank from Washington state. This is where I step in. They have an aftermarket electric pump (rated at 5-9 PSI) mounted in the engine bay. In the Haynes manual i…

Aloha, Im new to the forum and just purchased my 72 Z. The only problem I have with this Z is where the linkage that goes into both SU carbs. They are very "Sticky" and when gas is pressed it moves very slow and returns very slow which causes it to rev high when the gas pedal is pressed and very slowly returns to normal. What can I do to loosen up the link in both carbs so that it is not so sticky? Any help would be much appreciated. Mahalo, David.

I'm not sure if he factory-installed electric fuel pump is working correctly in my 73. I removed it and if I apply 12v, it pumps fine, I'm just not sure if the relay is working correctly, and haven't had the car running to find out if it kicks on when it should. So when exactly is the electric fuel pump supposed to come on? And.... If the electric pump is not working properly, does it restrict the flow of the gas from the mechanical pump, or will the mech. pump still work fine?

I recently purchased my '72 240z. The PO tells me the carbs were rebuilt by Ztherapy. They look nice and clean so I have no doubts. My problem is as follows. When I synchronize the carbs the idle kicks up to ~1200 rpm. The front idle screw is all the way out and the rear is in about 1 - 1.5 turns. On the front carb, with the idle screw all the way out (i.e. not cracking the throttle valve) I get about 9 kg/h flow using my Synchrometer. On the rear carb with the idle screw all the way out, I get about 3.5 - 4 kg/h. If I leave both screws all the way out, it runs but idles rough and performance suffers. With them synchronized the engine idles at about 1200 rpm but …

Is there supposed to be an o-ring on the cold start jets (or whatever they're called, the piston that moves down that the needle goes into)? I saw a groove in them when I built the carbs, and picked some crap out of them, or at least I thought it was crap But they seem to be seeping fuel, so I'm thinking that maybe the crap was 30-year old o-rings gone rotten from sitting.

Well, would there be any gains to switch out the stock air filter and have each S.U. have their own exposed air filter with ram horns?
