Hey guys, My Z's PO converted her back to the original SU's after the owner before him had put on dual Webers with Cannons and K&N filters. So I inherited those carbs, runners, and filters and it's all pretty much in pieces. I'd like to clean them up and reassemble them. My question is what should I use to clean them? I've heard the chemicals can be pretty expensive. Any ideas?

When I got my new (to me) Webers, (40 DCOE 151's) they did'nt come with air horns. If anyone here has 6 or less short air horns for my Webers, I'd really apreciate it. I will pay you for them but I'm on a budget so please be nice. Contact me at wolfin32z@yahoo.com if you have some or all 6 to offer me. Thanks in advance, Dave.

I recently "inherited" a set of carbs from a 1972 240Z - three screw round tops - got the intake manifold and linkage, too..... These were in the basement of a neighbor, and he "dug them out" for me. Nice gift. But, the excitement was dampered when I got them; they were obviously in a damp basement for the last 25 years. They are frozen up - pistons seized in the domes (I guess more properly said: suction chamber stuck to the walls of the piston) on both of them. All linkage parts move freely since I hit them with PB Blaster. The linkage arms are rusted a stage beyond surface rust, but no structural deterioration/major pitting... they will clean up okay with my bead…

I am in the process of replacing the fuel lines on my 260 and was wondering if anyone has pictures of the routing of them? Any help would be good.

I decided to bring my problem to this forum since thru deduction process I believe the carbs are my final issue. I guess the first question would be; what adjustment or problem with my su's would cause the engine to not want to rev up freely and be flat on power. Originally the engine idled smoothly and reved up sitting in the garage but out on the road it was flat over 3000rpm. I have gotten past the 3000 rpm ceiling but it goes slowly and without snap or power. It would tend to make me believe I am running out of gas. I believe the floats are adjusted properly and after cleaning carbs thoroughly I preset them according to 'just Su video'. Would a bad idle adjustment …

I have an aftermarket electric fuel pump mounted in the engine compartment. I know this isn't ideal. This pump is rated at 5-9 pounds of pressure. I am aware that my dual SU setup should be using around 3 pounds of pressure. My question is. What, if any, symptoms would the over pressure pump cause? Thanx in advance to any responses. OBX

Hi, I'm new to the forum and would appreciate any one willing to help a nubie. I just bought a 73 240z for a restore project. This car seems to have all the common problems early Z's are known for, rusted out floorboards, kinked choke cables, runnig rich , etc. I've used the current threads to get me through most of the problems but I'm having a lot of trouble with the SU's. They're round tops, I assume they were swapped out in lue of the infamous flat tops by the previous owner- unless early 73's came with round tops. They'e running extremely rich. While attempting to adjust the mixture I noticed that turning the mixture nut on one carb all the way in made little to no …

MY suction pistons are not rising or falling at the same rate. I bought this car recently to replace my Z that was rear ended. I got the car all running well except the carbs and I never had this much trouble tuning them since I learned how to do it. What is going on is the rear suction piston is moving much slower than the front one (this is with the engine off or on). I tried to adjust the oil levels, I ended up with almost no oil in the rear and the front being as full as it can be, but the rear still moving slower, but not by as much. Has any one out their fixed this problem on their car. I was thinking of adding weight to the front piston; swapping the pistons (think…

I recently purchased a '72 240z and am having issues with the carbs. I don't know a lot about SUs so I havn't done much with them yet. I am having several problems: When starting, the rear one backfires a lot, but only for a little while and consistantly at about 1800rpm. After warming up, it will idle at about 1100-1200rpm, but will jump to over 2000 after driving awhile, then go back down to normal after about 10 minutes. I have never encountered idling problems like this, but have never worked with SUs before At low rpms, it boggs a little and doesn't run well. I cleaned them and put 10w30 fluid in them because I heard that the thicker fluid can help…

I'm not much of a mechanic,so forgive me if I say something stupid. I am refreshing a 73 240Z that I have owned since high school(25+ years). Back in the early 80's,I replaced the flat tops with 72 round tops that I purchased from a salvage yard. They worked well for years, but now the car has been parked for 10+ years (body rust issues). During the refreshing, I have considered switching to a 4 barrel Holley setup rather than trying to rebuild the round tops. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
