after everyone told me that i should go back and add the ram horns under my K&N filters, i whittled these out of an old filter box and installed them today. the car runs so much better, i have to admit. i thought they turned out neat. i also installed my new radiator today, which dropped the operating temps down considerably.

Anyone know if the air cleaner "wing bolts" that attach the air cleaner to the carbs are still available? I'm swapping out my individual air cleaners for the factory setup. The air box I have came with the car but one of the bolts is missing. Thanks.

Good Evening I would like some input and reasoning on recomendations for Jetting and Venturris for my triple weber DCOE 42's I have bench stripped and rebuilt these carbs using Weber rebuild kits. But what I don't know is if the carbs initial set up is even remotely correct for my application. I bought my 280Z last year in July it also came with a 240 engine with the triples installed and headers. But it was ouside the car as was the efi 2.8. The previous owner had bought the car with the additional engine just like myself. And never installed either. I am concerned the base line is all wrong because ... with the idle adjustment screws not making or just making …

This looks like it might be a good buy for someone. No connection to the seller. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/car/446170260.html

I bought a set of 3 screw round tops on eBay. The carbs cleaned up real well, but the drain plug was rusted, and ruined the fuel bowl assembly on both. Anybody know where I can get new fuel bowls?

So, I am up and driving with the round top carburetors on my '73. The car fires up perfectly after sitting for a couple of weeks when I was too busy to drive it. But, I have a problem now with starting facing uphill. At first, I thought it was just me being rusty with the 5-speed. Now, I think there is no torque at low rpm under load. When I went out to a quiet hill to test it out, it would lurch forward with each engine rotation (sort of like it is only using one cylinder). If I hit the clutch fast enough (after a few rotations), the engine won't even die sometimes. On flat roads, it's perfect. On substantial hills, it's undrivable. and everything in between. I jus…

Wanted to let all Z enthusiasts know, In the process of looking into the Aritaspeed G-Nose kit for the S130. I made sure to inquire about the G-nose kit for the S30, to include the complete Body kit. I will post the info here, and if anyone is interested in having the real deal Shipped direct from japan, let me know and we will start the ball rolling. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The price is higher than I wanted, but aritaspeed is not the most friendliest at export proceedures. Here are prices: G-Nose S130= $775 G-Nose S30 = $800 G-nose full body kit S30( G-nose, flares, tail) = $1,400 All parts are made of fiberglass. …

73, L24, with 72 SU's. Did a few searches but didn't find the answer, books aren't helping either. Trying to avoid the inevitable learning by removal, disassembly, reassembly, and reinstalling... I know I should but I really don't have the time these days. With the choke cables detached from the carbs, both chokes stick - the front considerably worse than the rear. Can I remove and repair the chokes without removing the entire carb? Do they just unscrew? I have an entire book on SU's that doesn't help at all. Thanks, Z

Just curious if anyone has used colortune on our Z's. After finding that certain SU's float adjustments differ from front to rear it got me wondering about how one could verify the mixture between two carbs. Sure, tuning the carbs only addresses idle mixture and we are relying on the needle to provide the necessary mixture curve with RPM increases. It would be nice to know the precision in mixture adjustment gained by using colortune. Another question is whether two C-tune's could be used at higher rpm to verify ideal mixture? One could always use multiple EGT/CHT pickups or to get a really accurate idea but that is going a bit far. Jim

Looking for input on carb selection. I have a 72 240z that has been sitting in a barn for 20 years. I'm just starting to work on it and would like to have the original SU's on the car, but have heard so many conflicting ideas on whether to keep them or change them out. The dual Weber setup has been recommended. I just don't want to spend time and money on the SU's if they won't be a good choice for an every day driver. What I'm looking for is dependability and reasonable performance. Any suggestions from some of you that have tried the options and know what works well? Thanks so much for the input!

I finally got the round top su's on this evening. I've plugged all the hoses to the extra stuff on the balance tube, for now. The pieces are intact. The egr is still present and hooked up. But since I removed its vacuum source, I don't think it will be opened. I turned the key and it started running. It is popping gas out the carburetors a bit. But, I think this is expected for being completely unbalanced? So, I am feeling good and the rpm's start to rise to 4,000 with choke and 3,000 without. So, I attempted to adjust the ilde screw. It didn't seem to have an effect -- all the way in or all the way out. Looking a little closer, I realized that the tab that shoul…
