I just got my 73 started after 1.5 yr in restore process. I have replace the ignition. Cleaned out the carbs and fuel lines. Did this b4 I took her apart. She starts up perfectly, but will backfire through the carberators through accelleration. Is this a timing issue or a fuel issue. Otherwise she seems to run fine.

For the stock Carbs on a 1971 240z? http://shop.knfilters.com/KNShop/Product.aspx?pid=56-1703&cat=Custom+Assemblies Those may not be exactly what I would get, but I am just looking around. Any ideas are welcome. I dont care if I dont get any extra power out of it, but do you think that I might and possibly how much? Whenever I get a triple carb kit, I will still use these for that and just buy one more of these and stick them on.

Looking for opinions here. Thinking about doing a carb conversion on my 72. I know the purists want me to stick with the sidedrafts, and that is still a possibility. But I would like to get your opinion as to these conversion. Thanks for any and all info!

I have a little knowledge about the SU carbs and have a question. My front carb seems to work properly the issue is my rear one. When I lift the piston up it does not feel the same as the front nor does it seem to drop quite the same, further when it is lifted all the way up it sticks and does not drop at all...I have to open the filler on the top of the dome and tap it before it drops. I have already sprayed carb cleaner in through the air horn and that seemed to only help just ever so slightly. Any thoughts, ideas, HELP!? Please....

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I gotta ask and I can't seem to really find the answer. I set my timing to about 13BTDC at ~900 RPM with vacuum advance removed. I would have lowered the RPMs to about 700, but it seemed to be running rough, so I left it at 900. When I rev it up to 3000RPMs (still without the vacuum advanc) and check the timing with a timing light the mark seems to be in pretty much the same position. It should be advanced somewhere in the range of 11 degrees, correct? Does that sound right? Does this mean that the mechanical advance isn't working properly? I have a D611-54 dizzy with an MSD6 series ignition and an MSD coil. I am running a…

Help, I need a mech in the Northern Va - Wash DC area that can install my carbs. I have a 73Z that had the original carbs (Flat Tops) on it Now gone, and I have since procured 2 sets of round tops. Both came with the manifold. Here are the questions I have. 1. Should I replace the intake manifold that came with the carbs or use the existing one already installed. 2. I know not to mix the round tops. However is there something I should look at to pick one set over the other? 3. Does any one know of a good mech in the area that I can take it to. I would rather do it my self but the wife forced me to put an addition on the house :tapemouth and I need the Z running so I can …

Hi folks! I am bringing my dad's original 73 240Z back to life after 23 years in the garage. It has a Racer Brown 280 degree cam, and I installed SUs and manifold from a 72, and Pertronix electronic ignition. What should I be using for needles in the SUs? I have it idling well, and balanced, but seems to be lean on the top end. I am gradually richening up the nozzle settings, but wonder if I am going to need different needles with this cam. Thanks!

Hi guys, it's been about a month since I last posted here, as I didn't have much access to the Internet. I made a brief search in the Carbs section, but unfortunately I didn't found anything. Sorry if there's a topic like this. I want to modify my engine a bit, and I've been considering various parts to use. First, I'll have to do a general rebuild with factory-specified parts, in exception of camshaft, which I would like to be a longer duration one, thinner head gasket (without raising the CR it wouldn't benefit much from longer duration), a better-flowing exhaust system including the manifold and small (but obviously imprtant) things like better plugs, wires etc. As far…

tripple weber setup , prob is when running car for a long time lets say over 45 mins, IT WILL NOT IDLE, just dies when at a stop, does fine starting and even when it comes up to temp but after it runns and everything gets hot is when it starts. have header and it is wraped, but no heat sheild. Could this be a gas boiling in carb prob, if so would the heat sheil make a diff even with the headers wrapped, and if so what material would you manufacter a heat sheild from? Thanks

I bought a triple weber setup locally off of a wrecked 280z,and the linkage rod is bent up, and I think two plastic bushings are missing that keep the linkage tight. I was trying to find out what type of manifold it is so I can get new linkage parts. On the bottom ,there is the number 0030 stamped into the casting. Also , instead of having the bolt type linkage guides, it has two uprights cast into the aluminum. Any help would be appreciated.

Flat top carbs 1 2

Hi, I am starting to think about my long term project, a late 260z (over here in the UK), and I am going completely standard, thus including flat top carbs. Yes, I want to use then, not bin them and put on round tops. Why, the late 260z is getting so rare here, and a standard one is even rarer. So, I am asking has anyone got any tips on using these carbs, refurbishing, tuning, things to watch out for. I have yet to ask the UK Z community, but since the US was the biggest market, someone must like using them. Cheers Ian
