I am the proud new owner of a 1970 240Z HLS3003137 but am not the most mechanical person yet (but working on it). The car does not run too good yet and I think one issue is the carb tuning. I have 2 questions: 1) I changed spark plugs and the old ones were covered in black soot. When I start the car soot shoots out the tailpipe and you can barely detect that the exhaust is a bit black. Is this simply a too-rich fuel/air mixture or are there other possible issues? 2) I plan to get an airflow meter and tune the carbs. Before I do that I need to set the proper idle speed. My question is on the default position of the choke because that seems to be influencing my idle speed a…

I think there may be a set of very early SU carbs on eBay with the round float bowl covers. Didn't these come on the 69-70 cars? It's hard to tell from the pictures but I thought I'd post a link here in case anyone is looking. eBay Item #4583649272

Dellorto Vs Weber 1 2

Curious too know a bit more about Dellorto carbs? I'm trying to put together a triple weber set up for a 240 (still one carb and a manifold short ) and wonder how good these 45 dellorto carbs are. What I have found is they bolt up the same but do the chokes, venturis, jets and idles interchange with the weber parts? cheers Steve

My 72 240Z has the two stock SU carbs on it. a couple years ago i parked it and havn't ran it for about 6 years, when i start it up it sputters and backfires. my first thought is the carbs, does anybody have a diagram, tips, or any other ideas of what this could be

Hi, I took apart part of my carbs today to find out that I have different size jets. I also noticed that the towers(?) that hold the float pins are different heights. The smaller of the towers had the smaller jet. Is this from two different carbs? Also, when I go to set my float level should I compensate for the different heights or just set them both to 5.5mm? Obviously, when I hold them next to each other to see if they are equal, even if they are both at 5.5, they won't be. I also looked at my needles and they are N58. Does anybody else run these? On a side note, the car does run good with a lot of power and good idle.

My set of 44 PHH recently started backfiring occasionally (let's say 3-50% of the time) in 2nd & 3rd gear in the following rev range 1500-3000rpm. Basically when accelerating from a part throttle to full throttle in order to pass someone one, or accelerate from a light/stop sign. I took them apart, cleaned them out as best I could and re-assembled them. It did nothing for the backfire. It didn't get diminished nor did it increase. I did recently step my main jet size up from 150 to 155 to take care of the slightest bit of detonation at wide open throttle. However on the flip side I am now running a bit rich at idle. Can't have your cake and eat it too as they say... I…

I need some advise on the best way to remove the two vaccum connectors on the front intake manifold that snapped flush. :stupid: I was thinking of pushing or pressing them straight through, is there a better way.

Hand throttle? 1 2

My SUs arrived yesterday. A decent set of 4 screw round-tops on E88 manifolds. After searching and studying old posts and pictures, I think I've got it all figured out - what connects where and such. But I noticed that the center linkage between my carbs doesn't look like other pictures, it seems to have an extra lever near the front carb. (See pics below.) Would this have perhaps been for the optional hand throttle?

I'm gathering the parts to get rid of the injection on my 71 240Z (installed with the L28), and have a couple more questions: My carbs arrived today (4 screw round tops on an E88 manifold set). I'm going to need a heat shield. Will any heat shield ('70-74) work? Or do I need one that came with round tops? Also, I'm going to go to the local pick-n-pull to find an RX7 fuel pump. Anyone know where Mazda mounted these units? Underneath, near the tank, I assume?

Hi there, I'm pretty new to this site and I have a question. I have a 73 240z with L28 and N42 head. I'm thinking of buying a tripple set of 40 DHLA carbs and I want someone's opinion on them. Also the ones for sale are not jetted for a Z. Does anyone know what jets to use, and also how far I can mod the engine before they become too small? I wanted Mikuni 44phh, but they seem to be hard to find and the Dellorto's are available to me right now pretty cheap. Would I be better off with the S.U's instead. I plan to add flat top pistons, and a higher compression head as well as headers and 2.5" pipes all the way back. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hey guys, I am new to the carb game and was wondering if you could help me identify what these components for and what their purpose is. 1. What are these hoses, where should they go? It looks like they go into the stock aircleaner box (if you have one), can I drill a hole in the back plate of my ram-flo's and run it into them? 2. I understand this connects to the crankcase vent (my car is 350km's away so it is hard to see a logical solution), is this correct? What type of hose should I use. 3. Does this go to the brake booster, in other photos I have seen it heads off that way yet I cannot see where it ends up. 4. This is not labelled, but there is a hose that runs …
