I'm in the process of pulling the head on my '72 240Z and on removing the exhaust manifold found long pipes extending into the head (photo attached). I assume these were for a long-disconnected air pump (it was gone when I bought the car). My question is should I remove them and do one of the hacks found in the topic: http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/51171-keep-original-air-port-exhaust-manifold-or-who-cares/ or leave them be? I can't imagine that they are any help to performance, but do they do any harm? I installed a Motorsports premium exhaust system a few years ago, but otherwise run a straight, albeit, smog device removed engine. If, if the cam needs…

I've had a Flowmaster muffler on my 240 for about 12 years. I bought an MSA 6-into-1 header, their 2.5" stainless kit (with DynoMax muffler) and had it installed by a local shop. I didn't like the DynoMax muffler too much, and it was occasionally rattling, and after a few tries at the original shop to fix it, I took it to another shop. I had them put on a Flowmaster, and they did a few very minor tweaks to the piping so stop the bumping and rattling. I liked the sound better, and it served me well for awhile. About a month ago, due to ignition issue I was having (long story, suffice it to say don't use a MSD Blaster II coil with a Pertronix Ignitor) I had a very loud b…

Clifford store seems to have fewer items now than last year but this is fairly new. It's been years since they had Datsun stuff. But they're not selling headers for my Chevy truck anymore, damn. http://www.shop.cliffordperformance.net/Datson-Intake-Manifold-48-4500WH.htm

I just picked up an barely used Marmitte Supersprint front muffler:D I've heard of this front muffler but had not seen picture untill I saw the ad. I'm wondering what other setups Marmitte had I know this manufacture sold many different brands, like ANSI. I'm trying to also figure out what resonator to use to finish the setup. One thing I have noticed with the resonators for sale is they don't match my size the end of the pipe measures a factory sizes (1 3/4" OD and 1 5/8" ID). The ones I've seen for sale are 2" Today is rainy and dark, but the fist day of good light I'll get some pictures to add (I know a lot of you love pictures)

Ladies and gents - I have a restored, stock 1971 240Z. What are your suggestions for a long lasting stock appearance on the exhaust manifolds. The rest of the engine bay looks great but the manfolds go brown pretty quick. thanks

As I was in the process of pulling the E31 head on my ’71 240z I have been inspecting every part as it comes off. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner to stock specs but I have no paper work on it. The reason for pulling the head is that I cannot get the intake vale #4 in to adjustment. As I was inspecting the exhaust manifold there is a fair amount of rock hard clay like material on the inside of the manifold. There is also traces of it in the exhaust pipe but not as built up. Can someone tell me what this is from? It appears it would come off rather easily but I have tried chiseling some of it off with a flat head screw driver but it is not budging. Sho…

For me that is. I've been battling with this problem for years. In Florida I mainly run with the windows up and the air on so it hasn't been too much of a problem. But with the windows down and during down shifts it was getting pretty bad. I had made all the usual repairs. New weatherstripping, sealed the tail ights, checked for holes with a flashlight, etcetera etcetera. All to no avail. I then came across this post by Zs-ondabrain http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29708&highlight=exhaust+fumes “Here is one thing you can do. Get a smoke machine, a shop vacuum and some cardboard. Cut the card board to fit in the window opening with the window 1…

Hello, I have started to redo my engine and engine compartment. I have swapped out the original engine and working on another. I am planning on keeping the original 240 with the car (not sure why it does not match). I'd like to re use the manifold but to do that I need to take off and plug the air ports on the manifold. Is there any demand or reason to keep that manifold intact and buy another one or just whack em off and not worry about it?

A guy at work has made a meter to check of the car is running lean rich or just right. He uses an oxygen sensor somehow. Unfortunatly he is off for a few days and I want to make one and adjust my carbs for an upcoming autocross. Anyone here know how to make one?

I have a 71Z with a 280 F-54 block,N-42 head, 6 to 1 ceramic headers, 2 1/2 inch pipes and a Ansa dual exhaust stack tip. Triple Mikunis also. I was wondering what kind of muffler, glass pack, etc. would sound nice? I would like it somewhat loud. Does anybody have this same set-up and have any ideas for me? thank you very much.

Hi. I don't know too much about exhaust systems really, but I would like to make my otherwise stock 71 240z slightly louder or really just better sounding. Ideally this would be something simple like changing out the muffler (which I can easily put back on later). I want to keep it as stock as possible but whatever changes I make I can easily reverse. What is a good way to achieve this? Thanks!
