So I'm going through all the miscellaneous Z stuff in my garage yesterday and I come across this (see attached photos). I reckon I knew it was there all along, but had simply forgotten about it. I've had it at least 20 years. Not really sure who the manufacturer was/is, but I seem to recall I bought it from Motorsport Auto. My questions are: 1) What do I need to consider before simply replacing my existing muffler with this (78Z with stock exhaust system). Any performance issues? 2) What will be the difference in the sound of the exhaust with this mod? Will my wife ever want to drive the car again (she's not impressed with excessively loud exhausts)? Will law e…

Will I get worse MPG? Is it really even worth doing? Current snapshot:

The add says if you want more power this is the system to get. On Hybrid Z I read there that you lose 10HP and lose a lot of low end torque. Is this true? Who here has the system and what do you think? Is the sound as good as I here it is? Has any one run a single pipe and finished with dual glass packs? Would that give the sound with out the loss of power? Thanks Chris

Just got the 3-2 header with the turbo exhaust installed on my little girl. WOW! Big thumbs up, two snaps and a twist etcetera. Great sound and you can definately feel the difference in the pick up. If you haven't yet, you need to. Well worth the $$$. Now I gota buy air horns and those damn can airfilers. Oh well, there goes another $200!

I know, I know, not another exhaust smell in the cabin beat the dead horse question again....... It kind of is, but also want some opinions on my idea. My 71 240 which I just aquired about 8 months ago does have the wonderful smell of exhaust BUT only when the windows are down....windows up equals perfect, smell free cabin. I have done the basics on seals, leaks, etc, but the PO who put on the muffler used this twin pipe out the back that didn't quite reach the bumper. This weekend I went and bought two extensions...(see picture) and ran them a good ways past the bumper......guess what.....still has the exhaust smell. So I was thinking, and this is where you guys c…

Awhile back I had problems with fumes with the windows down, mine went away after a muffler change and sealing a few spots. Today I drove the Z about 8 miles to the paint shop, my wife was following me as I had removed all the exterior trim, bumpers, lights, interior plastic, etc. It was UNREAL how bad the fumes were as soon as I rolled the window down. It just goes to show you that if you don't have all those areas sealed then you are going to have fume issues. Since I have all this off, when I get the car back from paint I'm going to re-seal everything and replace all the gaskets. I'm also going to use the sound proof stick on sheets under all the plastic trim. Even…

I'd like to replace the stock muffler with a over/under twin tip similar to the old Ansa design. Does anyone carry such a thing anymore ? If so, who ? If not, what other popular options are there ? I'd like a more aggressive sound and a better looking tip than the stock setup. I'd also need to know what diameter the pipe leading into the stock muffler is so I can ensure I have the correct slip on tip. Thanks for any help!

I spent a pleasant Saturday afternoon installing a Monza exhaust system from Black Dragon on my '73 240Z. It went on without any problems, everything needed for the installation was there. The vertically stacked dual outlets are attractive. The sound is nice and throaty, at speed or under load. I recommed it to members who have a basically stock car, but want a different sound and improved appearance. At less than $260US it is a good buy. I was even able to salvage the stock exhaust system and package it in the Monza box. John - Santa Fe

I don't believe my car is a Califonia car. No floor temp light and no "C" or whatyever it is in the VIN that indicates a CA. car... So what is that thing that looks a lot like a Cat converter midway back in my exhaust? It has some raided letters stamped in the metal from the inside and sounds pretty solid when I knock on it. If it is a Cat Converter, what will it do to the performace, good or bad, if I remove it? We don't even need emission tests here.. Thanks!

I want to have a 3 inch exhaust put on my 75 280z, and i was wondering what headers everyone else uses for more hp. I have been searching the internet, and I can not find any headers for my l28 N/A motor. What headers does everyone else use with there 3 inch exhaust setup, will it be ok if i use the stock header?

Theres a red 240z about a minute in. Just wondering if anybody knows whose car this is. I wouldn't be suprised if it were one of MSA's own cars Wondering if anyone could shed some light as to what the mods are. Sounds really sexy.

I got a non-EGR intake manifold installed and I now have a large hole in the side of the exhaust manifold that the EGR used to run to. I was wondering if anyone knew what size bolt or plug I can get to plug that exhaust manifold up with? Or should I just buy an aftermarket header?
