well i have a 73 z i was planning on using as a driver while i put my challenger back together and of course the z bug is taking over... the problem was i knew that zs are valuable and desireable to us datsun lovers so i was holding off on doing things like making my own bare bones dash and such.. partly because i was under the impression that it was a relatively rust free z for washington.. well today i realized i was wrong.. i knew the passenger side had a hole in the floor and the frame rail was bad along with the passenger side sway bar mount, but i thought that was the worst of it. well today i was cleaning out the trunk and realized that the vinyl was holding moistu…

Guys, i'm almost finish painting my 1978 280z, but I still have to fix the floor pans on both driver and passenger side. I have read several forums about welding and mig welders but get very confuse and discouraged. I have done several things to this car to give up on it. I don't know nothing about welding or steel. I have read that I can use 18 gauge steel to make my floor pans, they don't have to look pretty, I just want to be able to drive the car. I read on this site that someone else also had bad floor pans and Dave said that he purchased a flux welder from harbor freight for $100 and used a grinder cut of tool and a saw-all tool, I have everything except for the flu…

A couple of simple questions about paint color for the old hubcaps and the sheet metal around the 240 tail lights.... What Color Are They? Can a Krylon spray can work? Or are they that "special" color? Thanks! Polecat

For a '73, does anyone have a procedure/sequence for repainting the hood and B pillar emblems. The Hood emblem is plastic and the B pillars are metal. Crome is in good condition and all have the pins. I'm wondering if it is better to paint with a brush, or spray paint. If you spray paint, do you mask or remove overspray with a rag and paint thinner? Also, a close up of the hood emblem would be helpful, since I don't know which parts are supposed to be black. Thanks.

Ok. This is going to be interesting to explain but I well try to do so. My 240Z is a original car that my moms husbands dad purchased originally. So I can point to everyone that has owned it. Now I am trying to restore the car including paint. I have the interior gutted and all the original ORANGE paint is there in great shape and every part in the cab has it! Everyone who has seen it including some new friends with Z cars have said ORANGE is great! How ever.... Today when I was looking under the hood getting ready to pull the engine and everything elts under there, I decided to look at the color tag.... COLOR NO. 110 !?!?!?!?!?! Red??? Its orange! After looking furth…

It's like the more I do the more problems I run into. I am attaching pictures of the rails on the passenger side. They look pretty bad. What do I do now? Are there replacements? How do I replace? Is there another fix? It just keeps growing. Drivers side is better. But does have rust in it also. Thanks for your help.

Hello All!! I haven't posted in a very long while but am starting a complete refurb on my early 260Z.. I've had the car for 17 years and it's looked the same ever since I bought it in 1993. It quit running in 1995 and sat for 11 years until I woke it up in 2006. I've enjoyed driving it for the past four years and done a few mods, adding new headers and a Rebello 3.1L stroker in 2008. Now it's time for new paint.. Here's a before pic.. Started tearing her apart on November 21st and made good progress with the help of a great friend from Lithia Nissan and my Brother-in-Law, Steve. I've got a rotisserie that was loaned to me by some very generous and helpful 'Z Car…

The recent thread about a torn away hatch hinge piece got me thinking. The same thing happened to my 1972. Not many data points, but from the thread I got the impression that the driver's side is more likely to fail. I suspect that a driver's side fail may cause the passenger side to fail quickly as well because it probably is creating unusual stresses on the other hinge, and thus accounting for the dual weld reports. The only difference between the sides that I can determine is that the single hatch strut is on the driver's side. Wouldn't seem that such a relatively small pressure could cause a break, but metal does fatigue and given enough time and flexing, any me…

So I have rust on the side panels just four inches in front of the rear tires on both sides. I also have rust in the wheel wells . This is pretty significant and goes through the entire material. What is the best step in fixing this problem? Eventually the entire body needs to come off for painting, etc, but for now I would like to get these taken care of. What are the wheel wells even made out of? It seems really thing and almost fiberglass like....

I have the entire rear suspension out of my 72, as well as the front crossmember and suspension. I am thinking of getting it powder coated and hoping someone might share how expensive this might be. Thanks! (can't edit the spelling error in subject line.........ugh!)

My next door neighbor lady is original owner of a green 72 automatic. On Saturday I finished removing exterior chrome, ding strips, lights, rear facia panels and interior panels. Will be towed to the paint shop late today or tomorrow. Will be very cool to have a nice 240Z next door to mine. Now if we can just get them to mate and produce offspring...
