Well I decided to go the DIY route on everything i have done to my car so far. Hence it only seemed logical to go DIY on the car paint itself. This is the first time i am painting a car and hopefully i do a good job. Please feel free to share any painting tips /advise or pitfalls from you DIY painting experience. I have finished all the body work (a real pita) and an in the process of creating my garage paint booth for painting my car. I keep this thread updated i i progress through the painting process through the coming week or so.

Now you see it, now you don't! No more leaky sunroof! The first picture was taken a year ago... the others were taken today. Things are coming together....

Hi Guys. I'm a new member of the site -so far I have spent a lot of time reading and learning but this is my first post. Also, the proud new owner of a 78 280z. I decided to clean up / detail the engine bay but wanted to get some opinions on some surface rust. It seems to be in just a handful of places, mostly near the radiator and on the bottomside of the hood. My thoughts were to hand sand the rust spots, apply a rust inhibitor and touch up the paint. Based on the pictures I have attached, does this seem reasonable? None of the rust spots seem to be anything beyond surface rust. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

just bought a new hood to switch with mine. I want to have my stock color and a black hood. The car just recently got painted viper red but I want the flat black hood. The problem is that I want to powder coat it and don't know what flat or % to go for. Does anyone have a similar hood and what do u recommend.

I've been looking for a fiberglass airdam like the one shown here, but I'm having a hard time finding this type without the blinker holes. I have the fiberglass shugar scoops and I want to eliminate the bumper and glass the whole front end together, no seams. I'm finding them all day long in ABS, or with blinker cut outs, but this is the one I want, without blinkers, with the rectangular ducts. So far I'm having no luck. If anyone has one they are looking to get out from under, I'm looking to buy. Don't care if it is damaged, I can fix the fiberglass while I'm moulding the parts together. I do have a reasonably clean front bumper with all the brackets & trimmings (th…

Does anyone know what the clip seals are that go on the inner fender? They are in BD online catalog on page 12 and it says the car requires 12. Whoever restored my 1978 280Z last time apparantly left them off. Thanks

My 72 240 large mouth gas cap has a chain hooked to the inside of the cap. Where on earth does the other end hook too? Can't seem to come to a logical conclusion. Thanks! Leonard

Hello all Over the past couple of months I've been investigating exactly how well the rear section of my car is sealed. This past week I discovered, by accident mind you, that the tail light gaskets were no longer really doing much of a sealing job. This weekend I finally had time to actually take the lights out and see how bad the situation was. Well, the gaskets, which I'm assuming back in the 70's were rubber, were hard as a rock. They didn't come off as much as fall off. Taking the light out of the rear of the car most of the gasket material fell to the ground. I replaced the gaskets with new gaskets I had picked up from MSA the week before. The whole process went …

Hello, I'm looking for advice on an SEM product: Clear Chip Guard - Aerosol 39804 . I'm getting my 240z ready for summer driving and this year my goal is to try something that prevents all the stone chips along the running boards and rear fender from dinging up the paint. I must spend at least an 1hr per month touching up stone chips. With my tires on 7.5" wide rims and driving on clean highway and smooth roads, I still pick up quite a few small stone dings in the paint - in some cases down thru the primer to the metal. Questions: 1) Has anyone tried using the SEM Clear Chip Guard Aerosol - 39804? SEM Tech. Data Sheet: http://semproducts.com/images/tech_files/CG%20…

I have been reading the forum for some time and find it very useful source of information for helping my son with his 78 2+2. However I have not been able to find anything on the 2+2 quarter windows so I thought I would ask. I have checked most of the vendors out there, BD, Vintage, Courtesy, and a host of Ebay sellers and I cannot find the seal that goes on the leading edge (by the door) for the 2+2. It appears to run the height of the frame, with cutouts for the metal tabs that appear to be the hinges to open the window, and extend across the top approximately 2 inches where the weatherstrip similar to the door sash weatherstripping begins. Any help would be much apprec…
