Hey guys, Just got my first z (and first classic car) a few weeks ago. I've worked on old tractor restorations with my dad when I was younger and I've always wanted to get my hands on old car to work on. As always though, should be careful what I wish for. The car has a LOT of rust. But hey it was cheap and I've got time and money to play with it, so I'm gonna go to it. Now the question I have for you guys is about replacing what I call the "inner" rocker panel. (The part behind the rocker panel with the even holes spaced along the length of it that floor pans attach to on the outside.) Just bought another 71 model last week, needs a little bit of work before I get it ready for paint. The biggest issue I have is... a roof had collapsed on it from snow load, only a couple minor pings here and there... but, the roof had a lot of snow hit it and the form of the top of the roof has been compromised. It is not bowed way down, but pushed down in 2-3 spots hard enough that the roof shape is not right. I could post pics if you want me too. Also, there is a sunroof in this one, which is the only thing I don"t like. so I am going to start rust removal on my 280 soon so far I have a replacement hatch and tabco doglegs are on the way, I still need to get some other repair panels including the hatch deck. Anyhow I plan on spot priming the repairs as I go. so my question is what paint/primer brand have any of you used and where in seattle would I find a paint supplier, I haven't painted a car in about 20 years (I'm getting old wow!).

I do like the BRE replica wing I have on my Z. Really fits the car. It was installed by the dealer according to my paperwork. One question though. I miss not having the 240Z/Datsun emblems on back of the trunk lid. When the factory added the deck lid spoiler, did they remove the emblems? Is there a correct way this config should be? With / Without emblems?

I don't have a picture just yet, but there are two circular holes, both in slightly raised squares of metal on either side of the spare tire bowl on the floor of the trunk. Do I need grommets for those holes? I dug through MSA trying to guess what they might be called but didn't find anything obvious.

Well it was only 1 1/2 years waiting but my car is finally home. It was delivered last Friday night. I am so happy to actually start working on rebuilding it not just taking it apart. I put the marker lights and the brake/rear lights in this weekend. Also the stainless drip rail above the doors. I have been putting fat mat in today and am about halfway done with that. I am pretty darn happy to have the car home but there are a few things that need to be sorted out. The body shop guy welded over the holes for the c pillar 240z emblem and the holes for the hatch emblems. I went to put them on and stood there looking around trying to find the holes. Hi Folks, I am hoping to get some help from the community on the restoration of my Series 1 rear bumper. The first question that i have is: Is the rear bumper from a '71 exactly the same as the rear bumper from a '73? ...size wise? ...are the bumperette's in the same position? ...are the brackets in the same position? Differences? Next, Does anyone have detailed measurements of a '71 Series 1 rear bumper with bumperettes and the rear bumper overbar? Pictures and measurements please? Thanks, Auzziez.
