I was recently involved in an accident (not at fault) and received some front end damage to my car "78" 280z. My question is should I try to get their insurance to pay for replacement parts and paint or are they going to try and pay for just the repair work? I guess what I am trying to ask is what has anybody done to repair or fix their vehicles?

Does anyone know if the green paint used on the 70/71 240's is basiclly the same as BRG. I think Datsun called it "Racing Green" but wasn't sure how the color differed from BRG. Also did they use this color green at all in 72/73? I want to add one more 240 to the garage but only want one in Green. Thanks for any input.

Hi, just wondering what various people have done in the way of sound proofing their inside floor pannels for those who have had to remove all of the tar matting during thier resto. I like the idea of a single spray in product such as stone gaurd (over an etch primer of course) as it has the benefit of not allowing dirt and water to get underneath it like the tar matting can. And it's thicker coating provides good scratch protection. I'm not sure if it would offer the same level of sound proofing though. Has anyone done this and found it obtrusively loud? Has anyone used some other product and had good results? Thanks!

I don't know if this will benefit anyone or not. I was in Rona Building Supply here yesterday and noticed a pallet of paint stripper. It comes in 5 gal. cans or 18.9 liters. They are clearing out the old skull & cross bone inventory. I bought a can ($29.95 CDN) brought it home and tried it out. It works as good as any of the aircraft stripper I've previously used. Just thought I'd throw it out there. If anyone wants some let me know.

Well, before I do any performance parts, or get into the interior which is all gutted out, how much would a good paint job be? The paint that is on there now is a crap job and needs to be sanded off. There are a few rust spots that need some work too before the paint goes on. Plus I am thinking of pulling the motor and getting the engine bay all painted pretty. How much has it cost you guys to get a nice paint job on your Z cars? I am also thinking of racing strips, so would that cost extra? Also, I want to protect the under body and was wondering if there is some kind of sealer that can be spray on and how much that might cost. I need to figure out how much this is …

It's time to get the body work and paint needed for my 73 240. I got several quotes for the work and will take the car in next week. I have already pulled off the bumpers and all emblems, and washed the grim off the car. What else should I do to the car before taking it in? Should I remove all the weatherstripping? Here are the before and after shots of the car, so if something sticks out that I didnt remove let me know. Thanks, Randy

Just passed the California smog test yesterday (woo hoo!). The Nox reading was high (borderline passed) but everything else was low. I have a 77 280z 2+2 and someone has the left and right front fenders from a stripped out 240z. He says they will fit on my car and the only difference is the size of the side lights. I' was told to replace the 240 fender with my original lights and there shouldn't be a problem. I'm just curious if anyone has done this? I have rust on both fenders right below the emblems. The 240 fenders are rust free and I figured this would be easier than having to weld some metal on them. Here's a pic of one of the rusted fenders. Any opinions ap…

I am in the process of restoring a series 1 240Z build date 6/70. The lower door hinge full hold open mechanism has been damaged on both sides and the spring is missing on the passenger’s. I tried to replace them with series 2 hinges but, the lower part of the door does not fit. There is a tapered gap from the top of the door to the bottom both front and back and the rocker panels have a gap or over hang of 3/8 on an inch. Removed the series two hinges placed them on the bench and measured the distance from the bench top to the center of the hinge pin. The series two hinge is 3/16ths of an inch taller then the series one hinge. I reinstalled the damaged series one hi…

The easy first, are the Zapp decals still available anywhere ? Second what is the purpose of glazing putty (red putty in tube ) Am doing my first body work and not sure of all products, gonna paint it myself also, hell I cant do worse than some of these idiots out here. So far it is coming along good, had had to manufacture some small panels and cut out and weld in, pretty proud of myself, looking ok, of course Im ANAL, so if the filler dosent look right i take it all off and redo it again . here are a couple pics of the gas fill compartment that was rusted thru on the inside panel and on the outside body, I cut both out and hand made new and welded in.

Hi Folks... I ordered a few things from MSA, one of them being the BRE rear spoiler. When I placed the order for the spoiler, I asked the sales guy how the spoiler mounted on the hatch, he told me that it mounted to the side lip edge of the hatch, so I didn't think I would need to drill any holes into the hatch. Well that's not the case, to mount the spoiler I'll need to drill two 5/8 inch holes into the rear hatch something I'm really looking forward to doing on my fairly new paint job. The Datsun, and the 240z badges will also need to be removed and the mounting holes for them will need to be filled in, and painted. I can't rally decide if I should mount the spoil…
