Onmy '78 280Z, the door lock tumblers are fine, but the arm connecting the barrel to the locking thing seems to have worn out the hole in the arm where it attaches to the lock barrel. To unlock the door, you need to turn the key, then wiggle it up & down a some to get the lock knob to come up. Sound familiar? I've looked at it when I got the car, and the door panel was off, and it (the lock machanism layout) does't look a lot like the parts diagram, so I think the lock might be a later style ('79?) unit. the car is supposed to be an 11/78 build. My idea is to make a new arm of steel or whatever to replace the one with the worn-out hole(s). Can anyone tell me …

Can someone describe how the front and rear bumper ends are attached to the body? The FSM doesn't really help and I don't have the parts CD yet. As I recall, mine were always a bit wobbly. Now that I'm about to put the rechromed bumpers back on I want to make sure it's done right. Specifically, I'd like to know where washers go. I've got fresh new rubber caps that fit over the plate on the bumper where the bolt goes through. Presumably that rubber goes up against the paint on the car to protect it. However, what goes on the inside behind the body? Is it just a single washer that's bigger than the bolt hole? Do I also need a lock washer?

The Fairlady grille fits the top and lower middle mounting points (of 1971 rhd) but is a couple of inches away from the bottom mounts. Could extend the brackets or make new ones but if someone has a an elegant solution? would like to see. Nick

Hey guys, I bought the set of floor pans from motorsport auto for my 74 260 awhile back and never put them in and have the opportunity to get a 70 240 that may need the pans redone. I bought the more expensive pans that came with a lil more material to play with and the frame rails. Does anyone know if the pans and frame rails from that package will fit on a 240? thanks for the help.

What I thought was merely a moderate rust problem is actually quite severe. Nearly all of the metal from the firewall back to behind the seats is crumbling. I took the car out for a short drive and heard a strange sound. The support that hold the wheel in place (don't know the correct term here) broke off... So the question is - at what point is the car just not worth fixing? I love the car, but I know at this point the cost to fix the body would be quite substantial. I know this is a little sacreligious around here, but I'm looking for honest and pragmatic answers. I don't have tousands of dollars to dump into even making the car roadworthy, much less the capital requ…

Cut the battery box out of my 73 Z today and also ended up having to cut about a 6" x 3" section out of the firewall where the battery box butts up against it. My question primarily involves repairing the firewall section. Have the wire harness really close to the cut out section on the right and have a lot of the firewall insulation to deal with as well. Is this an area where, instead of welding in a new piece of sheet metal, I could utilize something like JB Weld to hold a piece of sheet metal in place? I plan on welding in fabricated sheet metal for the battery box but I'm concerned about having to remove the insulation and wire harness to keep from damaging them shoul…

My car could probably use a cheap paint job to hold it over until I do the whole body job. What will a place like MAACO paint? Like will they do the door jambs, the hatch sides, etc., or will they just mask off the windows & spray what is left? I first thought of just doing the top & fenders, but there are chips & scratches all over. Some rust around the windows too. the top is starting to show light areas, which might be (white?) primer! The fender have llittle dark spots that remind me of freckles, the vent panel feels rough, and other stuff. thx

Well i got a few pics. I am debating wether to fix the old one or buy a new one. I dont think it is too far from repair but a new(good used) one would be much more practical)and more money).i can do some body work but money is tight and everything like that so i think will attempt to beat and bog the old one. here are a few pics of my progress. i hope you enjoy. its not as hard as it looks but dirty as HELL.

I have a 79 280zx, and two parts cars, a 79 and an 82. I took both front bumpers off the 79's figuring I could make one good one out of two, but after I took them apart I realized they are both shot. Will the front and rear plastic bumpers off of my 82 fit on to my 79? What modifications would I need to make them work? If not where can I get a front bumper for the 79? THANKS

I looked through the forums couldn't find a answer. I'm about to send a hood support rod out for replating for a early 74 260z , from what I can tell Zinc/Yellow Chromate appears to be the original finish. I can't tell how the attaching screw were finished. Does anyone know how they were originally finished? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim 260Z - RLS30-020697 (01/74)

Like my post reads Better lucky than good,I have hit the jackpot again. My house is real small but overlooks a big lake. The problem has been I have had nowhere to work on my cars. I found a place 3 weeks ago and moved in last week.I am still moving my cars and parts to the house. The good news is it has a 18x30 shop right behind the house.Right behind that building is a 18x40 building set up for a shop behind is another building 18x20 to use as a shop.Next to it is a semi enclosed pole barn 40x40. Next to one of the work shops is a 15x20 office with a walk in deer cooler.or beer cooler as needed. All on 12 acres in the middle of BFE.What I need now is where to get all the in…
