Hi All, I was wondering if anyone knows of a aftermarket source for body panels? I am really looking for the lower center valance for a 240z, but also want to see if they carry other parts as well. Your help is greatly appreciated. Saro Fagerian

Finally got my arse into gear and working on the project again. I chipped some of the passenger side of the trans tunnel and have found some curious things. There is red oxide paint on the bare metal but only part way up. From memory, Datsun didn't apply any primers to the floors or tunnel. They just applied the tar sound absorbing mats. The link below clearly shows that the area has been sprayed before. My thoughts are that a PO has made a huge modification and stripped the body before and applied red oxide paint then replaced the tar stuff, then re-sprayed the entire car. Anybody care to shed some light? Good news is that the metal is lickable. Yippe, I was thinking …

If you had your car media blasted, how much prepp work did you do? What exactly did you do? For example when you remove the windshield you have some of the black tar/sealant residue left over. Should I worry about that before media blasting? From the search I did on the forums I found out that it is better to get the car media blasted and then perform the major rust reparations like replacing the floor pans and patch up the cancer sports. What is your experience on this? How much of rust would the plastic media blasting actually remove? I found a local place that would gladly media blast my car. I talked to the owner and he has agreed to give me a fair deal since I hav…

Any one know the correct thickness of the rubber bushing (for lack of a better word) on the door latch where it contacts the striker plate? EScanlon? I'm trying to figure out if I can make one with heat shrink or vinyl tubing or if I have to scour the junk yards. A picture would be wonderfull since I've never seen this piece of rubber before. Thanks, Z

Hello all, I'm in search of some advice. My '73 Z is in need of a new paint job, replacement of the floor pans, some new sheet metal in place of the sunroof, patching of the battery box area, and some body work on the front end of the car where the hood attatches to the body. Basically, I need to find a decent shop that can do a repaint and all the other mentioned work, at a fair price. I'm not looking for a showcar finish, since this will eventually be a daily driver...someday...and I don't want a Maaco paint job either. I'd like to do all the work myself, but don't have the knowledge, tools, or facilities to properly do so. Does anyone have any suggestions for a go…

Hey Guys! Since you were so helpful on my last problem, let me ask you another question...I am shaving the rear bumper on my '77. Do you know of any one who makes "roll pans" for the Z, or am I going to have to make one my self? Thanks for your comments! :paranoid:

Hey guys, I got a question about the rear hatch and my paint. When I first bought my 280z it was white and had pretty shitty paint job. One of the things I noticed was that the paint on the rear hatch had crackes everywhere. I figured it was the old paint but sure enough I think I was wrong. After about a year or something like that, I had my car custom painted, I'm sure it was 2001 Viper Yellow, and of course before the paint they sanded and everything. I also had them put on a body kit I bought from zcarparts.com. Well anyways everything's great and all but I just noticed about 2 months ago that the paint on the rear hatch was starting to crack just like it was when it …

I happened onto this technique while starting to remove the Tar Mat from the floors and tunnel of my '70 which I'm restoring. Don't know if it has been used before, but here it is: I started out heating the mat (which I had seen suggested) but that just made a mess and poor results. I then used a gasket scraper and manually started chipping the mat out with acceptable results, although labor intense (as declared by Bambikiller240 a couple of years ago in a thread). It occured to me that I had a couple of pneumatic rivet/muffler guns and a chisel point tool and wondered if that might work. I rounded the corners of the chisel slightly so as not to gouge the floor and tunnel…

If your car was nowhere near stock body wise or any other way and wanted something different and had the ability to do it yourself?? My 240 is so far from stock it will never go back, and that started a long time ago, being the second owner since 79 or so... I'm getting close to paint and I can't decide. I want something that will stand out and say HEY! But things like shadow flames, color changing paint, and all of the modern stuff seems so over done anymore, it's everywhere... I was thinking of painting it 918 orange and tiger striping it with a white belly, really making it look like a tiger, the stance of the car is right, but all of the black stripes on the top wil…

I am picking up an 81 280ZX in early August for a potential street beater. The clear coat over the black finish has oxidized (disappeared) on the top surfaces (roof, hatch, hood and fenders) of the car. Rather than repainting the car immediately, I thought I would rub the entire car down with a finish prep, like car skin. Then lightly sand the edge areas of the clear coat with a 400 or 600 grit sand paper. Lastly, have the clearcoat reapplied. Any thoughts on whether this would restore the finish on the car? Opinions appreciated. Thanks,

I looking to replace my 240z door to get my car painted, will the 240z door panel fit the 260z door shell? Thanks
