Hey all, I was stripping my 71 to go to the paint/body guy when I saw that my front turn signal lens were covered with overspray from the po paint job. I am trying to remove the overspay without damaging the plastic. I tried a adhesive remover but didn't do a thing. I was trying to avoid taking a razor blade to them or replacing them. Any suggestions would be appreciative.

As the Z car got smaller and smaller as I am disassembling it, it became clear to me that she has been in a few minor accidents over the years. The passenger side floor board is raised up and dented upwards. Really I am writing this for any opinions on another are of body damage The front left of the car has been damaged, spanning from where the headlight scoops mount to the crossmember, which is also bent. Look at the photos. The cross member circles also became misconstrued. I realize it is not very major, although if I am getting the car painted and am spending this much time to make retstore it I want it to look the best possbile. I know that replacing it woul…

I recently had my Z broken into through the driver-side window and I am now in the process of finding replacement glass. I have searched extensively in the Dallas, Texas area with no luck whatsoever. If anyone could recommend a dealer (online or otherwise) who would have window glass for a '73 I would be endlessly thankfull.

So my '71 240z has the usual major floor panel rust and now that my suspension is all about to be put in, I think I should start welding in new floors. I've been looking at this site www.datsunzparts.com of Zedd Findings. Researching through other Z forums, I hear a lotta good word on this company's floor panels and that they actually distribute their parts to MSA. Would you guys agree to me purchasing floor panels from here? If so, I got another question. The rust is directly in the center of the floor panel and doesn't seem to have spread beyond it. Should I still order the Floors and Support Rail set or just the Floors?

Ok all you Aussies(and Kiwi's maybe) Since all Aus Z's had the smaller bumpers (240 style) for all years 70-78, can you guys find these bumper with great regularity at junkyards or even for sale in local classifieds easily? Did the mounting brackets change from year to year? Is there a mounting bracket used in the later years that used similar mounting places (on frame) to the 280z bumpers in the USA? i.e. same mounting location but with only a bracket instead of the 5mph shocks used here. Thanks.

Hi all; Help. I have a limited budget and a big dream. Later this spring I'd like to turn my poor, ugly, old '74 260z racecar into the automotive equivalent of Salma Hayek. The body panels are straight and need no replacement (see my avatar). The nose is beat up and the tail looks naked and BORING! Street cars look best when understated, but racecars are seen from a distance and should look exotic, mean and aggressive as the Lord intended. I've seen a couple of body kits with skirts, flares, a nose and rear wing for 600-900 bucks but I still need more ideas. FYI - this car competes on full size 2-mile road courses at well over 120 mph. A big, nasty rear wing would not on…

I have a new found respect for anyone that works in the auto body business. I've been sanding on my old z for 2 months and just when I thought I had everything right I sprayed the color. It looked like shat! So I sanded for another month. I read an article on block sanding and the guy claims that he's been sanding for 30 years and stated he was either an expert or just stupid! I would classify him as mentally deranged! SANDING SUCKS.......but as they say "a good paint job is in the prep work" and I can now say from experience that painting a car is easy but it truly is the prep work that counts!! As the master of shortcuts I can tell you there are none in painting. …

I'm going to do my best to do as much prep work before the z goes to paint. That being said, what grit sandpaper should be used to strip the paint down to the metal? Also, what tools?, circular sander?, what speed? preferrred body filler for dents? Thanks guys.

I was looking at a Matra Murena frame lately, and Paf it got me thinking again! The fibber-glass body is glued to the steel frame… Yes glued, the car is almost 25 year old now and still very sound and rock solid! So here's the old “What if :knockedou Aren’t we going the hard way to repair big flat panel with welding when we could just treat the rust by cutting or POR15 and glue a metal sheet ? If the surface was wide enough, would it have the same strength? Where are we today on glue tech? Any 3M guru on this forum? Glue is everywhere today, and I bet aircraft and spacecraft use it more than we think, maybe it’s an area of improvement for us ?
