Hello ClassicZ forum members, My name is Matt, new here, just turned 16 and just got this black 72' 240Z for $3000. The previous owner worked at a body shop and just painted the outside of the car and looks gorgeous(sucking me in to buy it because it looked so nice outside), but the interior after looking under soaking floor mats(floor pan rust of course) is lime green:( I want to match the color of the outside of the car or just get rid of the lime green altogether. Ive started striping the car totally. This is my first project car and right now Im focused on just getting the rust out and cleaning it Today I took out the seats, carpet, body panels, etc. I was wondering …

How is the chrome window frame attached to the door On the passenger side of my car, the top, front of the frame (where it bends from veritcal to horizonal) is too close to the roof gutter and the weather strip pulls out when closing it. I can shut the door and then push the top corner of the window frame in, and it fits great. its just about 1/8 too high at the front edge. The rest of the door gaping looks ok, so I don't think the door is out ot whack. It appears that the chrome frame may be held on by several bolts/screws in the front and back. Can it be adjusted?I would just take them out to see, except I've done things like that too many times and caused myself unto…

I keep seeing pictures of Z cars on this site with elongated noses and the radiator under the front bumper. Sometimes they have rear view mirrors mounted on the fenders and sometime they don't. What kind of Z cars are these? They look pretty cool but I've never actually seen one in person. Were they sold in the USA?

Referring to the stuff at z car creations . Looking at the prospect of drilling out a number of rusted/broken body screws, I'm considering using stainless for the non-mechanical (i.e., not suspension or internal engine) portions of the car, especially body panel stuff. Problem: while z car creations has apparently gone to a lot of trouble to match the bolt threads and lengths (which they really have to), the bolt heads are not the same size as stock. They are still metric, but the guy says that the are usually "one or two sizes larger than stock". Given that I won't ever get to a 100 percent stock car (the car has headers, and I'll probably keep that and I intend to u…

OK, "hatch leak" and "water leak" don't come up with anything interesting, so I'll ask a new question. I have a hatch leak in the new 280Z. Sat out in the rain for 4 days (3 inches of rain), and today when I went out to drive it, the rear carpet was very wet. Not enough to get anything into the spare tire well, but quite soggy back near the right quarter and rear panel. When I opened the hatch, a few drops of water dripped down from about half-way down the window on the right side. I also noticed that the outer seal on the car body lifts off for a couple inches. So, anyone that has had hatch leaks: do you have any likely cuplrits? Is it likely that the actual wind…

I found an outfit in Palmdale / Lancaster, California area that is willing to get involved with the club. He is wanting to refurbish "Z" bumpers and accessories. I took a bumper to him, to have straightened, rubber mount strip holes welded shut, triple nickel chrome finish to show quality for $350.00. I have looked around for this kind of quality in the SoCal area, online and even some recommended shops. The average cost has been between $950.00 to $1375.00 for a complete bumper set and I have been somewhat unimpressed with the well known outfits customer service and quality. I talked at length with the owner and he might be willing to cut a volume deal or setup a club d…

In case you don't know. Line X is a similar product to Rhino Lining. A spray on liner used for the beds of pick-up trucks. I went to a body shop today to talk to the guys there about my car. We got on the subject of spraying Line X to the undercarrage and wheel wells. Now my plan was to strip to bare metal and protect it with POR-15. Then cover it with Line X. The body shop guy told me that the Line X can be sprayed directly to bare metal. No primer. And he said that it's guaranteed not to rust. The Line X is non porous and will seal the metal. If this is true then I could save a pretty penny and a lot of time. What do you guys think? Line-X

Just curious for those of us with the early Zs that have only one supporting strut for the hatch. Does your hatch not sit quite right because of the stresses from years of being supported on only one side? I'm wondering if I should try and 'improve' my 71 by swapping a later hatch and have two support rods.
