Hey guys, On my 260 the PO has removed part of the vinyl on top. They basicly just cut out a huge square in the middle where there was some rust. Not sure why exposing the rust to the elements was a better idea but what the heck. So I removed the rest of the vinyl up top since it would have to be replaced or removed anyhow. Now the roof is totally bare and I have a few questions. 1. I notice in a lot (almost all) of the pictures you guys put up there is not vinyl on top. Did the 240 come that way or did you guys just leave it off after painting etc? Kind of like the chrome alongside the doors etc. I notice you guys do not have this on but mine does. Are these just 2…

I have been looking at some pics of 240zs (as you do) and realised there are 2 types. A all horizontal one(2) and a horizontal with small vertical bits(1). I have included a pic. Why is this. Im thinking the year released.

This is just my personal opinion so dont take offense but i would like ot know what you guys think. I beieve it is MSA that make the full body kit, i have seen many cars with this kit and find it just tacky as hell. I feel like the stock look of a 240 z with the front spoiler is the coolest way to go . and what abou tthe boxy rear end kits?? does anyone else think that the square look takes alot away from the look of a z. I much prefer the rounded rear end, it looks much sleeker/meaner to me. I just want to know what you guys think, im just a newb and want to get some discussion going on this subject.

Hi all, Has anyone had good results with painting moderately large areas of their Z with a rattle can? I'm thinking areas like door panels, valances, spoilers, and maybe even the hatch. Assuming one had good quality paint in a rattle can ( stuff like that provided by www.paintscratch.com ) are good results possible? I keep hearing that painting is 90% prep and 10% spraying. So if one did good prepping, could you get away with ol' marble ball spray gun? Best Regards, Landmizzle '72 240Z

I have a question about the hood vents on my car.I have a early model 77 280.On the drivers side the hood vent has a cover under the hood that catches the rain, leaves etc and prevents them from going into the engine compartment. On the passenger side there isn't one.Should the car have one? when I bought it the fusible link covers were dry rotted and cracked due to the weather and other things coming in.Did the car (when it was original) have a cover under the passenger side vent? i would appreciate anyone who knows replying.I am about to order new vents and need to know if I should hunt down another cover also. Thanks to all who reply. …

I'm sure this is a common problem but what do you do about old bumper rubber, short of replacing it, that is breaking down and chalking. I hate getting that black stripe on me when ever I brush against them. Thanks, Mark

I am putting a set of ZG style flares on my 240z and I want it to look "period correct" so I need an original paint code. If anyone has this information please help me out. My body shop needs this info ASAP! In pictures the flares look like they are very similar in color to the tail light pannel, but the tail light pannel is not very glossy... it is hard to tell if the flares are supposed to be glossy. If anyone has any info, thanks in advance. Thanks! Kelsey kmcnair78@hotmail.com

I finally got up the nerve to pull up my carpets to see how bad the floorpan rust was. Using a 500W worklamp for heat I was able to pull up all of the tar mat and used Xylene to clean up most of the residue. I then used an abrasive disk on my drill to clean up as must of the surface rust as I could get to. I've attached a photo of the results with areas of concern marked. The red circles a few areas that are rusted clean through. The green circles an area of relatively deep surface rust with lots of craters. The rust showing around the perimeter seems fairly minor; I just couldn't clean it up with the sanding disk. The rounded humps along the top of the frame rail …

How much would you expect a shop to charge for doing this? Has anyone in the club had this done? I searched the gallery and forums and didn't come up with anything. Andrew
