When I bought my Z last Feb. the front bumper was inside the car. The previous owner hit something, she was not going very fast the only damage that occoured was a few cracks on the right headlight bucket and the valance below it was dented a bit. Well and the bumper is a bit tweaked. The right mounting bracket was bent pretty bad but I have since tweaked it back to looking like the other one. I assumed they were both supposed to look the same. The bumper is still bent and this is were my problem arrises and am hoping someone may be able to help. In the center of the bumper it tents up on the top and tents down on the bottom. When I attempt to put the bumper on the…

is there anything wrong with cutting out some bad metal, and por 15 and riveting some plates on top? there's some okay metal on the floors, but its not all that great and there are some parts where there's a huge section of holes. any input on if this is a good or bad idea in the long run? I'd like to put a cage in the car later

OK, I need some expert opinions. I bought my 73 z two years ago, and havent done much as far as major overhauls of any sort. I finally am to a point to where I might be able to put some money into my baby. I paid 1200 for the car, which I think was a steal since it has been a dialy driver ever since. My question is this, I need to know whether the rust, and or body condition is good, bad or ugly. Should I use this one for my project, or try to find another one and use this one for parts? I am sentimental to this one, keep in mind, so I would love to see it completed. I have quite a few pics in my gallery and need to put some more in of the A pillar, which has a lot…

Well, I knew I had rust problems, but I found some nasty stuff today. I finally pulled the front fenders. I knew that the PO had replaced the fender with factory parts, and they still looked good. No rust apparent at the rocker on them. There were a few rust bubbles on the rocker itself, but not too bad. So, here's a pic of what I found under the front fenders. The rocker ends are pretty much gone. Don't know how you can see this area without pulling the fender, but if you see ANY rust on the rockers, beware of this area. First, the passenger side:

Ok, i know the photo is bad but the camera doesnt want to focus this close to the ground, will try and take a better one soon. Anyhow this seem where the firewall, floorpan and transmission tunnel meet seems like a great place for rust to set in and it looks like it has in my car. It also looks like someone has tried to repair this with new metal but the rust is still present. I just found this today after stripping off the deadener, I will get a fine tipped wire brush attachment and try and clean up the rust in the crevices/holes a bit to get an idea of how bad it is in the next few days. Any opinions or ideas spring into anyones minds from the photo? Looking for other …

I've just acquired (this past Saturday) a 1971 240 that I plan to make a 5-10 long term project of. The car has been repainted a few times, but I suspect the original color may have been red (903?) but haven't yet removed any original bolts to identify undercolor. The color ID plate on the radiator support is missing. Is there any other method (VIN?) to identify the original color? Norther NJ Larry

I've just acquired (this past Saturday) a 1971 240Z. I'm finding some parts seem to have been replaced with pieces from later model years (e.g., the hood). I suspect the rear hatch gate is not original as well as the defroster elements run horizontally... I thought on the 240s the ran vertical. Which way did they run in 1971 and for a bonus, when did they change?

the car is originally gunmetal and a friend is going to prime it black using some funky brand primer (its all oxidized and I want it uniform until I can afford to repaint.) if the car is grey and I have it primered black, will it be a problem when it comes to paint, since it will just be black, and the paint job will be grey, not to mention the different brand primers?
