I've always had a question about that. As for most of us, we only have time to work on the Z on weekends. That means, we'd need to protect the bare metal from rusting after we strip off the paint, tar, whatever for months or years before completing the restoration. I know Metal Ready from POR-15 etches the metal and coats it with a layer of zinc phosphate. But how long does it last to offer good enough protection against rust? Having the shell primered for a long time isn't that great of an idea either since the primer is porous and moisture can get in to cause rust as well. Is there any other good way to keep it at bare metal while one completes what is necessary to go i…

Has anyone used this friction system to repair dents? It seems like a plausible idea and it's been around for 13yrs. I wonder how much they charge for the set... Sunchaser Tools

I really wish someone made a weld in replacement battery box already. I am so tired of having to repair underneath the battery tray on every Z car i have owned by fabricating something out of sheet metal. It would be nice to just be able to buy a replacement. Also, a replacement set of frame rail cradles (directly in front of the toe boards) would be wonderful too!!

I have managed to get my hands on some of the paint colour sheets for datsun production. I chased theses sheets down when trying to source the colour of my cars factory paint scheme. I got lucky, after talking to Dazza about the ones he got from EBAY, I thought I would ask at the repair shop doing the work on my car. the owner came back with two really dusty lever files, within two minutes I had my cars colour mached (colour chip to screen support inner lip) colour red 110. I convinced him to let me scan the sheets that could be done. dulux/duco/dulon import sheets 1971(2 sheets),1972,1974(2sheets),1975, 1976/77,1978,1979, 1980, 1980/81, 1981/82. Australian local bu…

I'm trying to develop a strategy for approaching the full restoration of my 260Z and could use some advice. I plan to strip the whole car down to a rolling shell and, notwithstanding the discovery of any expensive looking rust holes, get it media blasted at Austech. An acquaintance of mine, who has restored several Galaxies, swears by baked enamel for the body work. In all honesty I didn't know you could have something as big as a shell finished in this way, I thought this process was only for small parts such as suspension etc. So to avoid embarassment from my ignorance I didn't press my acquaintance for any further information. What I really would like to know is what…

I've been having a closer look at my project 260Z and not suprisingly there is a bit more rot than first noticed although that hasn't put me off. What is of concern though is that the frame rail on the passenger side has sustained some damage in the past. It looks like the rail has landed heavily on a kerb or similar and there are considerable indentations in the area although there does not appear to be any twisting in the adjacent areas. Does anyone know if this might be symptomatic of further damage? Are such indentations fixable or has the strength of the car been compromised to the point where I should try another donor vehicle? It doesn't actually look that bad, but…

I have finally created some online photo albums of my current projects. For those who are interested in the Datsun Fairlady rebuild see:- www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291195515 For the progress on my 1973 250Z buildup see:- www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291183313 I believe as a viewer you are required to "sign in" but there is no charge for this. Spring has finally sprung in good ol' Adelaide, so I will now be concentrating on the Z project. It HAS to be finished before Easter 2003 so I can cruise to Toowoomba Queensland for the Datsun Nationals.
