I'm currently doing a refresh of my engine compartment. The original paint code number of the car is 510. And the engine compartment has never been repainted (still has this original color #510). There are areas inside the engine compartment that need some touching up/light rust repair, and I'm wondering what would be the best/easiest way to match this light blue color. It would be nice if I could find a current rattle can brand that comes close to this original color. Does anyone have any ideas/advice on how I might do this?

Hi all, does anyone know if the long indention on the top of the rear Valence for a 240z is necessary for the bumper to fit? I don't have a rear bumper and I have a Valence that does not have an indention, it has been smoothed. Was the indention necessary for the bumper to clear?

I'm restoring a 1976 280Z, currently working on stripping, priming and painting the radiator support and surrounding areas. Looking at the metal patch in the picture, which is above the passenger side rail and directly behind the radiator support, I'm curious to know if this was done at the factory. Looks like it is mostly professionally spot welded. But the crappy spot welds at the top edge makes me wonder if someone added it a some point, or maybe it is OEM and someone just did a bad fix. There is another one like it on the driver's side. Wondering if someone can take a quick look at their Z and let me know if you have something like it. If so, I'll pro…

Hey everyone, so our 71 240Z is in need of a good paint job, but I want to take my time and find the right place who will take the time to do it right. Basically the whole car, including the roof, is filled with small dings, and I worry about most body shops just spreading bondo all over the place instead of taking the time to do the metal work necessary to actually remove them. Can anyone recommend a shop, or an individual person, in the greater Los Angeles area that does thorough, honest work without charging crazy prices? I would be willing to spend 6-10k if that’s what it takes to get it done right. I’m open to even having one person do the body work and pre…

Hi fellow members, I have been searching the forum and although I can find a lot of info about replacing the bumpers I can't find much about replacing the valences. My plan was to buy the fibreglass bumpers, fit them, if everything went well replace them with the Stainless steel bumpers from Harrington. Datsun 240Z and 260Z Bumpers | Harrington Group Fitting the front bumper was easy, but it left a big open area between the small two bar grill and the bumper. I knew there was a hight differance between the 240 and the 280 valences and decided to go down that road. The height difference was more than I expected. The 240Z is so much highe…

So, I just got back from the local auto body supply place - they carry various brands including BASF/Limco/Glasurit. I asked for Nissan 901 silver, and the guy looked up the code and found nothing available from Glasurit in the 55 Line, and nothing in the other BASF products. I found this online tool, and I get only 90 Line, which is water based. https://coloronline.glasurit.com/index.php?language=8 I think that is incompatible with all my Glasurit stuff... which I have on hand. I've got a lot of money invested in Glasurit primers, and clear coat (I did some work on my BMW M3 as well). So, this is kind of upsetting. Now, I find it hard to believe that I ca…

I need some advice... When removing the fiberglass headlight sugar scoops from my old fenders, I broke a few of the bolts. I was actually trying to be careful by soaking them with PB Blaster, wire brushing and backing the nuts on and off when I could, but two out of three on each scoop broke off. One is still long enough to use, but the others are not. Has anyone had any luck replacing these bolts which are embedded in the fiberglass? My search of older posts only found one other reference to these broken bolts from 2003, but no definitive answer on replacing them BTW, I hope I'm using the right terminology. I've heard some people refer to these as headlight buck…

I'm interested in moving forward on restoring my Z. Has rust in the usual spots (front of rear wheel wells), as well as some on the rear hatch. Anyone know of a decent knowledgeable shop in the Everett, WA area? I'd like to pull the whole thing apart and have it repainted and the trouble spots fixed for real, not something temporary that's just gonna be trouble in the near future. Thanks in advance, Christopher

The one up top is a front bumper could be found on a BMW 68-73 E3 BAVARIA 2500 2800 3.0 3.3 The one behind it is a '73 240z. Thematically they seem to be on the same page, surprisingly the steel is the same gauge but I would be surprised if they were made of identical steel. The BMW bumper is much more stout and the better quality is evident, I guess the late 60's early 70's Japanese production philospophy of "How cheap can we make it and how much can we make?" was in play.

I've had several people tell me, and have seen it mentions in several other Floor Pan post, that it is recommend to installing support bracing before starting the floor pan replacement, in order to keep everything in place and square during the process. What I haven't been able to ascertain is where the bracing should go, and how to you install it so it doesn't interfere with the installation. I plan to do one side at a time. Help and recommendations are greatly appreciated (73 240Z).
