I was crawling around under my '73 240 to see how difficult its going to be to replace all that rotten old suspension rubber. I had been looking in VBS so I kinda knew what to be looking for. To my surprise I could not find the rear sway bar on my car. :surprised I can see the brackets where one would go. I've had this car since '76. It hadn't been raced or modified before I got it. Very stock except the previous owner had put on the '72 carbs. Looks like somehow the factory just forgot to put one in there. Were they standard or maybe it was a European thing? I suppose this presents an opportunity for something better but I'm just going to do the front and the k…

Tie rod end 1 2

I can't seem to get the tie rod end disconnected from knuckel so I can remove the strut housing and will need to get a fork. Any specific size and advice? Also the grease boot is shot at the end of the tie rod. The urethane kit comes with the tie rod end boots but I can't see how these hold grease like the soft ones on the car or am I completely off base? Thanks

I have four sets of steering knuckles, one of which is supposed to be the competition type. The problem is that while I know that the competition pieces are supposed to be 10mm shorter than stock, all four sets are the same size. I have been unsuccessful in finding the actual size of the stock knuckle-meaning that I could have four sets of the competiton knuckles or more likely four sets of the stock variety. The one set that I have that is supposed to be a competition set came from a gentleman who is absolutely certain that what he sent me are the competition parts. Only a measurement of either the stock or competition length will telll me for sure. Thanks!

I am in the process of refinishing all of the suspension components on my car and wanted to do the front crossmember while I had it all apart. Has anyone had success removing the crossmember while leaving the engine in the car? Do you think it would be possible to jack and block the engine up and remove the crossmember? I do not have acces to a engine hoist, and although I could rent one, I will have to get the crossmember bead blasted and painted before putting it back in so this would likely take a week or so and I don't want to rent a hoist for this long if I don't have to.

Can anyone explain spring rates to me..? I 'm looking to invest some $$ in a set of Tokiko Illuminas and Tokiko spring or the MSA set for a street 74 260..I want the Illuminas because I like the idea of being able to adjust the ride quality but I don't have any idea how specific spring rates are going to influence that or not..The MSa spring are apparently stiffer than the Tokikos and unfortunately the Eibach progressive (which I hear are more along the lines of what I need)re no longer available for the z..

Can someone recommend a source for the softer rubber suspension parts rather than the racing urethane type? I'd like to minimize ride harshness even if means a bit more play. So far all I've found is the urethane type. I suppose there's always the dealer.:pirate: I know I've heard that stiffer urethane is not worse. If that were the case then why have any insulation at all. Just bolt it all up. Don

hi people, i was looking for outer tie rod ends here in my country for my 1977 280Z but unfortunatelly the are not available at all.. I looked on the internet for those parts on web sites but they costed arround 48$ each?? those prices were on victoria british and courtesys parts i think ( hope that i got the correct spelling) i dont beleve that they could cost that much, coz a normal 555 tie rod for a 280ZX cost 44$ for both.. while i need new shocks and adjustable springs if available is there any good approved spare parts agent that sells parts for 280Z with reasonable prices and able to ship? i asked people here coz i know that they love thier Z's, and so they buy go…

I'm calling on those gone before me. I assembled my 240Z rear stub axles today. All new parts from Nissan were used. The seals were pressed in until they seated as shown in the FSM.The only difference was I used the 280Z stub axles and companion flanges. The housings were marked "B" and I reused the "B" distance pieces that were not deformed or crushed. I ran down the nuts with my impact (about 500 b/ft) which I know exceeded the factory torque spec. I could disassemble and install new distance pieces and retorque if I need to. When I rotate the stub axles there is no noise but they have moderate rolling resistance. I don't suspect any problems but wanted to hear from any…

Well I'm about 60-70% complete. The rear is finished, and boy does it look good. I painted every part and added the Suspension Techniques anti-sway bar. I'll take pics when my camera is fixed. I think yall are going to love this. It really came out nice. I also found a collapsed strut cartridge in one of the front struts. Boy is that ever a strange phenomenon to find. The strut rod wouldn't even budge, I wonder how long I've been driving with that???? :cross-eye
