On my 77 280 .. I know I need to overhaul the entire suspension, but right now I have a noise when I take off from a stop especialy when car is cold. It sounds like is comes from the back end and like a slipping kinda grunt. Any ideas what this is? Thanks ..Bruce

I'm attempting to replace on the bushings on my '73 240. I'm almost finished with the front, but I'm having problems with the rear control arm. How the Hell do you get the spindle pin out? Is there some trick? If you can help, please be as detailed as possible...this is my first attempt at working on a suspension.

I recently changed the steering rack bushings on car (old rubber to energy suspension urethane) and got some new tires. The tire shop said that they couldn't align it because of play in the rack bushing so, I took it home to see if he was right. With the front end jacked up I can move the brake rotor whiches causes the rack to move side to side. Is this normal and if not what would be the solution? I've already double checked the tightness of the bolts that clamp the bushings. Oh, for what it's worth, the old bushings had thin metal strips wrapped aruond them, kinda like shims. Are these neccesary?

In the installation instructions for my new Tokico springs, it recommends cutting any replacement bumpstops down since the new springs are shorter than stock. In the reference picture it shows 3 bumpstops including one similar to my new Energy Suspension bumpstop. Is this really necessary?

I have a bone-stock 71 that is nearing completion from a light cosmetic resto, and want to upgrade most of the suspension bushings, as they have cracked, etc over time. Is there a manufacturer that makes a complete kit for the entire car? What is are the advantages/disadvantages of poly bushings? I'm sure this question has been addressed in the past, but i could not find it, thakns in advance- Jody

Does anyone know where I can get the strut spacers for my 72Z? Canadian shops would be great. The originals have broken into many peices.

I am redoing the front end of my 70/240 being careful to label and bag everything as well as taking many photos. I picked up everything from the powder coater and started to reassemble when I noticed the photos were not inline with the book, it seems the brain surgeon that worked on the front end last assembled in opposite sides. Yes, the brake calipers were forward on the car also the ball joint were mounted on the bottom of the transverse links. Ok, I got the brakes going in the right direction but mistakenly mounted the ball joints from the bottom of the transverse link. :stupid: It seem to clear every thing and actually cleans up the assembly. See attached Does …

Can you say 'arse?' :paranoid: I just got my Z running again after it had sat in the woods for a few years. No mice in the carbs (did you see that post!??). I'm trying work through all of the mechanics before I tackle the cosmetics, so I have been driving back and forth to work a few days a week. Every time I hit a curve too hard, the back end lets go of the pavement and scares me to death. I am not talking about racing speeds. Im talking about taking right hand turn into my neighborhood at about 20 to 30 mph on bone dry pavement. Something you would expect a Z to easily handle. My mazda 323 (four door sedan) will take the same curves at the same speed and stick to…

I put a BRE-style spook from MSA on this last weekend and can't believe how much of an improvement it made in the steering. Even at speeds as low as 45 mph I can feel an improvement. At 85+ it's like a new car. The float that the early Z's have is mostly gone. It was a bit windy yesterday afternoon and the car moved around a lot less on the freeway at 75 mph. Even though I actually prefered the clean lines of the front end without it, the improvements are really worth it. I highly recommend this for anyone with a 78 and earlier Z. Of course, now I need to paint it to match the car... nice project for a winter weekend when I can't drive it anyway

Hi im new here. My name is Mike, im 17 and live in Portland, OR. I bought my first Z, a 75 280 about 2 weeks ago. My plan is to "slowly" build it into the "weekend racer". I want to put some good suspension on it, right now it is all stock. It currently needs new struts, any little bump and i really feel it and hear it. I want good handling because i drive on a lot of curvey roads and want to be able to take it to the track and get some proformance out of it. I also want it to ride decent, i dont expect (or really want) an cadillac quality ride but it has to be ok for daily driving. What would you guys recommend for my low budget? A local parts store recommended KYB's or …

Hi guys, I've replaced the original rubber bushings for my front transverse link with Noltec type bushings, the new Noltecs are self assembled, (you insert metal sleeve inside the bushing) Looking at diagrams in the service manual, the bushing is offset (should be closer to the front of car than the rear) My problem is, I've installed 'em so the bushings are in the middle of the link bolt (no offset). In two weeks time I plan to jack the car up and replace the springs, while Im at it, should I reset the link bushings? Or is it no big deal?? cheers
