I was in the middle of removing my rack and pinion for a little refreshing of my steering rack (fresh grease, new seal, new boots, new tierod ends) when I found out why it is suggested that you remove or lift the engine up a couple of inches to remove the rack and pinion. While pulling the assembly out, that dirty, greasy knob thing broke off!! I've checked VB and MSA's catalogs and they don't carry this piece. Should I replace it with OEM (don't you just hate going to the Nissan dealers??) or is there some way to eliminate the reservoir altogether? (i.e. remove and plug hole or maybe install zerk fitting into hole to grease that end of the tube??) If the OEM reservoir is…

I found out that my mustache? bar bushing allowed the metal bar to slap the top of the frame under power so I went out to the wrecking yards again. I found a 73 240z with an old RotoMaster single SU draw through turbo system tht was not worth pulling but it had some parts I did want : ) The bushings in the mustache bar seem to have top and bottom caps and may be made of harder rubber and is different from every Z I have seen so I dont think they are factory? The sway bars .940" F and .750" rear have welded tabs, they came with some different brackets to mount it on and were origionaly silver. Can anyone please help me identify what brand thease may be? Thanks.

Is there a left and right front control arm or are they interchangeable. I can't tell the difference by looking at them with the bushings removed. They look identical but I want to make sure I'm not missing something. I lost track of which came from which side after cleaning them down to bare metal.

Thought I would post a quick mod/fix that worked on the mustache bar bushings. Fisrt off I had a bushing that would allow the bar to move up and hit the frame. I didnt have any luck with a used bar bushing from the wrecking yard so I came up with a temp mod/fix untill I get new ones. I noticed that the bushing had 2 holes through the rubber compaired to the ones I got from the yard and were much softer. So I grabbed some thick vacuum tubing I had laying around and some bailing wire and did the following. Cut some length of hose about 1/4" OD thick so that it wraps around the metal bushing insert. Then slide some wire through it leaving about 1 1/2" out each end. The…

So a few of you may remember (or not) that my '75 280Z runs like a dream but has a total gonzo of a suspension. In short, its in worse shape than David Hasselhoff's singing career. I'm pretty certain it needs new rubber (or poly as it were), new shocks, struts, and u-joints. A new rear diff mount definatly, and perhaps ball joints and or tie rods. Right now the steering wheel vibrates something awful when driving. Even stopped, the steering wheel has a good 1/2"-1" of play in it. Back tires have gone completly bald, and I don't drive it rough at all. Obviously alignment was out. Think the u-joints are about toast due to the sound I hear when driving. And of course, the i…

I've got a 73 240 that I bought in 76 and have kept it all these years. Everything is pretty much stock except for the radiator, ignition, and ac compressor. Problem is that the 240 is in better shape than I am. I've got a bad case of sciatica (low back pain). I'd really like to drive the 240 a lot more but as you might guess the rough ride is really hell on the sciatica. I know it needs new shocks so I am hoping that I can find some shocks that would soften it up. Any recommendations? I drove a 280zx for years but its got such a bad case of nippon skin cancer that it would be hopeless to fix up altho I may do that even though it looks like the devil since its rid…

I'm considering Tokico springs and HP struts on my '76 280Z 2+2. I've read that the rear springs on a 2+2 are wider and that the front ones are stiffer than a coupe. Supposedly, using Tokico suspension on a 2+2 feels sloppier than a coupe, but can anyone confirm this? Also, would it sit properly due to the additional weight or would it be raked?

I don't know how old the springs are in my 77. The po did change the strut cartridges and a random bushing here and there but I just can't tell about the springs. Anyway to check by measuring ,or if I take to a tire shop will this be not worth thier effort and can they get an accurate measurment.

I took out the rear shock , back end would kick out when hitting bumps. So I figure bushings and shocks are in order. I pulled out a tokico (suprise)which didn't look too old but I don't know how long it's been in there and wondering if I even needed new ones at this point. When I put the new Kyb one in I can't tighten down the retainer any further. Should I grind down cap on the bottom of the cartridge or is it ok the way it is ? Also should this cure the kick out problem or are springs in order?

I purchased some rear axle boots and they come with clamps for which I have no tool. What can I use as a clamp: hose clamp? Thanks, Victor.

I am in the market for some new shocks for my 240z in hopes of making it ride like a Buick. Actually I'd settle for a ride like my 280zx. Anyway, softer ride is more important since its a daily driver not a racer at least no more than once a year on a local autocross. so.........I noticed on ebay that you can get some kybs for ~120 or Tokikcos for about ~200. Anybody with experiences with both? I'd like to do it only once for a long time. Its not a fun job fooling around with those springs. tks don

but the front is still a little higher. about 2 1/2 finger gap at the rear and just over 4 fingers at the front. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, I got one of my ZG flares on. the paint is still drying on the others. I don't know, does it look right? seems like the front should be a little lower.
