What sort of break away torque are you guys running for street cars in your LSD's? I see a few cars running 80-90ft but I think this may be too much for the street. Thanks

Todays progress A case for and against cheep tools This afternoon I removed the rubber bushings from some of my suspension components. I used cheep tools from Harbor Freight. I have had a 6 ton shop press for years, So earlier in the week I popped over to Harbor Freight and picked up a bushing/bearing driver kit and a few things that were on sale (a cotterpin assortment, a metric grease fitting assortment, a couple of flourescent lights, and some other odds and ends). I looked at what I had, and realized none of the drivers in the bearing driver kit were large enough to handle the bushings in the Mustache bar, I checked a few of my sockets, but I had loaned out my la…

Happy Mother's Day all. I am in need of a transmission crossmember mount for my 240 Z. If anyone here knows of any please let me know. I have searched ebay...to no avail, and I also have a post in the classifieds with no luck as of yet. Thanks in advance for your help. David

The rear brake/axle assembly is one of the few assemblies I haven't torn down on any of my Zeds. I've been dreading it, but the time has come to get the job done. I've removed the retaining nut and easily pulled off the companion flange (I think that's the right term--the part with four bolts that attaches to the half-shaft). Now it's time to drive out the stub axle. I soaked it overnight with PB Blaster. The Humble "How to Restore your Z Car" book says to prop the drum brake backing plate on two 2-by-4's, use a soft drift and give it a few good licks. But this puppy isn't budging. Am I missing something, like a retaining clip somewhere, or am I going to have to resort t…

Last night I got a big brown cardboard box in the mail full of 4 Tokico Struts for the 240Z. It looks very nice sitting beside the white cardboard box full of 4 ST springs that arrived a few weeks ago. Now all I need is some time to install the lot. Then look out corners. I will be taking before and after height measurements for those that would like some numbers to crunch. Might be next weekend before I get a stab at it though. The price you pay for having a daily driver Z

Alright, i'm getting stumped on this one. I can't get the tranny output shaft seal out of my 73 240z, which still has the 4spd. It was leaking, but also sat for about 10-15 years. The rubber is pretty dried out, and a screw driver just seems to poke holes in it, and the screwdriver and pliers only seem to take chunks out of it, leaving the seal sealed up in the tailshaft. Any advice to get it out???

How reliable and durable are the '78 280Z auto transmissions? Anything special to check or look-out for?

Ok, I've been reading all the threads on disassembling the rear stub axle/bearings since I'm about ready to do that on my 280Z (dropped out the entire rear suspension yesterday, and am going to do all the bushings, shocks, springs, etc. at once). First question: the axle nut. Several posts have indicated to dremel off the peening before removing the nut. That makes sense. However, the 1978 280Z factory manual has a big bold warning: I'm assuming the that manual's term "caulking" is the same as peening the nut, since the manual instructs to caulk the nut after reinstallation. Do you think this is a typo and they really meant "do not FORGET TO release it"? Why wouldn…

Hello, I am the proud owner of a 3/74 260Z - it is presently in stock/original condition with approx 90K on the chassis. I finally got the car running and driving after a few issues (headlight switch replacement and upgarded to a 280ZX distributor with MSD 6AL). Now I can move on into the upgrades. My goal with the car is to have a fun driver. I currently have a 400HP Turbo SE-R with Koni Red's, Sectioned/Shortened Struts, GC's, C/C plates for when I want to play around at the track. Other furute upgrades do include the Toyota 4X4 front brake upgrade as well and the rear Maxima conversion as well. I will install either 15" Konig Rewinds or 16" Panasports. I have been sear…
