I cannot find the specs for the R200. How much does this diff hold when full? I bought 2 Quarts of Red Line lube and just need to know how much to put in the diff. I checked 'search' but did not find any info. :surprised

I just ordered ZTherapy SU's to replace my SU's that are going on over 20 years untouched. I am planning on doing some head work on the car this winter. I have an L28 with and E31 head and will be running stock SU's with SM needles (so I guess that part is not stock). As far as I can tell the pistons are dished (I have never had the head off and the person that owned the car before took that knowledge to the grave). I would like to know what the limit of the SU's are. In other words how far can I go on the head work before I surpass the SU's abilities. I would like to go with a cam about the equivalent of the MSA stage 3, port and polish the head and go to larger valves a…

A while back there was some interest in me posting some pictures of my rear sway bar, made by Suspension Techniques. It is a bolt on, no holes were drilled in chassis. Please click on my link below in my signature to see what the sway bar looks like on my 72 240z. I highly recommend this upgrade, the car is much tighter in corners now. The front sway bar was also upgraded (and there's a photo of it as well.)

Anyone have experience with this kit offered by MSA? http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PSDC08 Since adding new 15x7 Rewinds, my car now tracks the road while driving. And since i plan on using the 1" Tokico springs soon, the problem will only get worse. Since z's have no camber ajustment i need something, But I don't want solid ajust bushings because this is a street car, so Arizona Z arms are out as well (To expensive also). I'd rather not hack up the strut towers either with weld in plates. Let me know if their's an easier way. Thanks, Jay

Have two racks and need to swap the side rod assembly from one to the other. The side rod assembly is the outer ball assembly that screws onto the rack itself at one end and also attaches to the tie (side) rod end.The racks are from a '71 and a '77. Straight bolt on or problems?

I have brand new Nissan inner/outer tie rod assemblies that are going on my 280Z; probably tomorrow if I get the rack back together tonight. The inner ends appear to come packed in a yellow grease. It is obviously a bit old, since it tends to be a bit chunky if you disturb it (see the 2nd pic attached). I am using a synthetic grease throughout the front end in this rebuild, and my thought is to clean all of this out and replace it with the synthetic I am using. Anyone know of any reason that would be a bad idea?

Here goes: My rear tires are 225/50R15 that comes out to a 23.86" diameter I've got a loaner original 4spd from Victor Laury (thanks Victor!) so 4th gear is a 1.00 ratio. My rear end right now is a 4.11 At what feels like a slow freeway cruising speed and observing a steady 4000rpm I calculate I am actually travelling at 69mph. "Feels" right since everyone in L.A. including the CHP does at least 75-80mph on the freeway regardless of the 65mph speed limit. (rpmxtire diameter)/(final ratioxtrans ratiox336)=mph (4000X23.86)/(4.11X1.00X336)=69.xxmph When I get my 81-3 5spd back with an 0.745 ratio 5th gear from rebuild I've been toying with the idea of putting in a 4.375 fina…

Okay, i found my borg warner 5 speed and r200 for my 71. From what i read I have to have half shafts from a r200 set-up ? They are different lengths on r200 vs. the same length on the r180? I also read that the driveshaft will need to be shortened because of the bw trans is longer. All these parts came off of a 1982zxt for reference. I also noticed that the bell housing on the bw trans had 2 support legs that bolted to the block on thezxt. Is this gonna be problem running without these?? Looking for professors in the school of hard knocks to teach me . steve

So its been a little bit since I was on the boards. Had a baby, getting ready to have another; and looking to get my Z running again. Well it has been running, but I digress. The rear wheels are bald. It didn't take long either. I suspect the alignment is off. Both tires (actually all 4 tires) were nearly new until I changed from my '73 240Z to my '75 280Z. After about a year the rear tires went bald over time. Total miles since the switch onto this car, perhaps 12000. So obviously I need new tires BF Goodrichs. The question is should I just align it? Should I get new struts and springs and then align it and get new tires? I also have a good rear end clunk that (probably…

Just wanted to get this down for for future reference. When I 1st picked up my new Z it was, quite frankly, a horror to drive at over 70km/h. The steering vibration was terrible and got progressively worse until at about 100km/h my vision almost became blurred! Under braking, things were bad too. So, what to do? First stop was the local tyre specialist for a wheel alignment and balance. The mechanic there did his best but noted that one front rim had a 'centre buckle'. He told me that as the rim was steel it could not be repaired. Disheartened, I shopped around for a replacement and predictably found nothing that would match the other three wheels (these were period '70s…
