FYI, I just ordered a new clutch type LSD for my R200. I ordered it from Precision Gear p/n (LOM59-12) (ph# 734 946 0524) at $602.95....I should have it 12/22/04. Since this LSD carrier is for a 12mm bolt set-up, I ask them about using spacers to fill the gap when installing it on an R200 with 10mm bolts. I was told they are not necessary! They have done a number of race cars without the spacers and have had no issues. They said that the clamping force of the bolts is what secures the ring gear to the carrier and that the 1mm radial gap is nothing to be concerned about....the ring gear will not move if the bolts are properly torqued. However, if you do decide to use spa…

hey everyone, i have a 74 260z in which i seem to have torn up the differential. I read on ebay that a late 90's subaru legacy has a 3.90 that will supposedly fit into a 240. Does anyone know if this is tru or if any fabrication would have to be done? And if it will fit in a 240 it would fit in my 260 right? thanks for your help.

While searching the web for a good price on Tokico Performance struts for my 240Z I came across two dealers that sell Tokico suspension kits. Each kit includes a set of Tokico Performance struts and a set of Tokico springs. I emailed each dealer and asked them to comfirm the type of struts included and the spring rates. If they are the same springs that MSA sells then they should be 140#/in. front and 160#/in. rear. Here are the dealers and the prices for the kits: Direct Source Outlet located in San Diego, CA. 1-800-877-1911 HPK251 kit with non-adjustable struts: $380.97 ILK252 kit with adjustable Illumina struts: $591.97 Link: http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/tokico/prod…

I've been driving the 240Z for the last couple of weekends. Yesterday I noticed that when I give the gas pedal a health push the revs go up faster than the car accelerates. The revs will drop down to normal pretty quickly. I've only noticed this in 4th gear so far (car is a 4-speed). I look in my repair manual and saw that you can make an adjustment down by the slave cylinder. That should take care of the slipping, right? :nervous: Any tips? TIA

I am needing to replace the bearings/etc. in the rear and am curious if anyone has done this. I dont NEED the CV half shafts but if they are smoother quieter or more reliable then I would like to do it now rather than in the future. (Someday I will have lots of hp but not right now) I have replaced everything on this car each time thinking I finally cured the clunks and noises but it just keeps getting worse and I cannot stand it any longer. It sounds like the rear end is falling out of the car everytime you hit a bump! This cannot be normal. It has always "clicked" when you back out of the driveway but now it is doing it during turning through a corner/etc. or just rolli…

Are there any shops near Sacramento that know how to work on Z suspensions? Miles

I'm revamping my suspension and will be springing for some Tokico Illumina's. I've read elsewhere in the forums that Illuminas and ST springs make a good combination for handling. I was wondering if going with Tokico springs (Like the ones sold at motorsport auto) would work better? I don't know much about suspension but I was making the association in my mind that maybe since the Illumina's are made by Tokico, their springs may be a better match. I've got an early model 260z and will be using it mostly for SCCA and weekend driving. What do you guys think?

I changed out the springs and shocks on my son's 240Z 2 years ago by removing the entire strut assembly and then using a spring compressor changed out the springs and shocks. It took about 4 hours. I recall reading on this website that there is a way to remove the bolt on the top of the shock and then jack the car up which allows the spring to expand and then, without removing the whole strut from the car, push the strut down and pull it out of the wheel well far enough to then remove the spring and shock out of the strut assembly. A freind told me that he changed the shocks on his Z with this procedure and it only took about 20 minutes per corner: 1. Remove the three n…

Hey all. I am about to redo the suspension on my 71 in the next week or two after I finish the garage clean up and move the 72 out of the way , Had a few questions for someone who might have done this and might wish to spare me some errors. First I know the longer struts go in the rear and to add oil to the casing but which springs go up front and which go to the rear boxes do not say neither do the instructions. Also is there anything I will need to make the job easier or that I should replace while I am into it. I have the following 1- Tokico hp struts and spring < advanced suspension kit> 2- Energy suspension poly kits 3- New ball joints 4- Bump stops < poly …
