I believe this to be a typical r180 to r200 swap with all the other things included ( r200, r200 half shafts, the lower rear "curved" bar, and flipping my r180 mustache bar or getting one from a 280) my question is that while lurking through the boneyard I noticed that 280ZX's don't have mustache bars, can the diff still be used with the typical mustache set-up or is there some moddin' involved?

ok ive been running random math through my head trying to figure what ratio dif i need to top out at about 120-125 and ive come up with 4.4 or so would do that for me. i have a 3.54 in it right now and so i did the math by taking my current top speed presumably 160 and then multiplying it by 3.54 and then dividing by 4.4 and i got a number in the 120's. just wondering if that is an accurate way to calculate the top speed change or not. im thinking it is since there is only one variable being changed and since the wheels, and tranny gears are remaining the same i can consider them a constant or 1 so 1(3.54)(160)/4.4= 120ish works in my world... any thoughts? i have a 28…

Here is the link to the pics that the powder coater took for me with a disposable camera. I will get better up close pics but it turned out awesome. I did most of the under coating and paint removal before bringing it to him and he took care or the rest. Here we go: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=2390495093&code=12898485&mode=invite&DCMP=isc-email-AlbumInvite The final color is a textured black and grey hammer tone, since my Z will be grey with black over fenders when finished. Reassembly will begin this weekend, I'm so excited :classic: :classic:

I might have a chance to pick up a '79 ZX Parts car for free. It has 136K on it. I have heard people say the 75-78 and 80-83 5 speeds are good. I have not heard people talk about the 79 model 5 speeds. Are they junk? If they are ok, it might be worth it to grab the engine and trans out of it. Can a 79 engine be converted to carbs easily? TIA, Marty

I took off the steering wheel on the z I just got. It was an old aftermarket wheel, maybe like a grant gt? The large center bolt was loose, so i removed it. One of the three smaller bolts were loose and I took it off too. Now the problem, the other two smaller bolts were on there really tight, but i was able to take them off. The two bolts stripped the plate that the wheel bolts on to. The one that says "top" on it. Now I have two bolts with surrounded by metal, not a big problem, and that plate with two big freaking holes. What should I do? Help

Hi Folks, Hoping you can help me out with some numbers here. I'm coming up with a design for a front diff mount but can't get to my car to measure things up for a while. The two real important dimensions I need are the distance apart that the two long bolts (that clamp the diff to the mount) are from the central bolt that holds the mount to the diff cross member. And the distance from the mounting hole in the cross member towards the hump where the member rises to go over to the exhaust - I need the distance from the hole centre to where the metal starts to curve up, so just the maximum flat width available there. Hopefully the attached pic will make things a bit cleare…

On the steering rack there is a U-bolt clamped to a bumper looking thingy. Does anyone know what the purpose of this is. What does it do?

This may be a dumb question but my 280Z is the first stick I've ever driven so I was wondering if this is normal. When I'm driving and I'm coming to a stop light I push the clutch pedal all the way in and then step on the brake. As I'm slowing down to a stop I try to shift back into 1st gear for when I'm ready to take off again but it won't go back into 1st gear until the car has completely stoppped moving. Is that normal? I can shift into any other gear while the car is rolling just not 1st. Is my clutch going bad maybe? I'm new to manual transmissions so I have no idea. Also today when I went to leave work I tried to shift into reverse to back out of the parking lot and…

Well, me being only 16 has some faults. I got my permit in july, and have been dviving the family nissan maxima (2000 SE 5 speed stick). Lately the 240 has been running poorly, and dad didn't want me to drive it. Yesterday we got it running a little better and I finally drove it. WHAT IS WITH THE STEERING!!! I knew it would be heavy, but damn!!! My dad says the steering assist does not work very well amy more, and it used to be better. How should the steering assist be fixed? Thanks Dan Ps; nonetheless, it was way, way better than the maxima!

Anyone have any idea what their spring rates are? Tried to find a website for them, but had no luck. Alternatively, anyone know of a set of springs that are around 125 front/165 rear? Marty

I thought about getting a Centerforce clutch. I'm just not sure what the benefit would be to getting a centerforce 2 over a centerforce 1. I have a 3.0L stroker with a lightened flywheel (replacing the 240mm 2+2 flywheel with a 15 lb 225mm) I noticed that the centerforce 2 was about 3 lbs more. Will the benefits of a stronger clutch offset the extra weight??? I also have heard that the centerforce 1 clutches were basically the same as stock?? The clutch I have in now hasn't ever 'slipped', so I was kinda hoping to get away with buying the cheaper and lighter centerforce 1.
