In disassembling my recently acquired 71 240, I noticed that the rear 'control arms' (the triangular pieces on each side, bottom, facing road that the strut, etc. sits on) are not installed the same on each side. On the passenger side, the flange surrounding the piece faces down, while on the driver side it faces up. I am wondering if the previous owner may have had this apart, and re-installed incorrectly. I have been unable to find any photos illustrating this point. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance- Jody

I have a 1971 240 and need to replace the rear struts. Any suggestions regarding mfgs. or particular parts that are preferable? It is a weekend driver that I almost never push very hard. Just want a good, fun ride. Thanks for the help.

Hi All: Earlier this year Dave (V8-240Z) donated a Spindle Pin Removal Tool to be shared amoungst the ClassicZCar Club members. mperdue held the tool for a while and then passed it on to someone who needed to use it. Does anyone know who has the tool now? If it can be located, I'd like to arrange to borrow it for a few days. I have a few suspension pieces I need to separate. Please reply here, or send me a PM, or Email. Thanks! Carl

Hey all fellow grateful zed heads, I just put a 78 tranny / 78 slave / 78 clutch pressure plate/disc in my 72....it doesn't have enough travel to engage the clutch..... no adjustment on a 78 slave....so do I adjust at the 72 master cylinder lever that attaches to the pedal? that is all I can think of....the only adjustment available....I have a 78 master cyclinder, but it looks identical to the 72 master clutch cylinder....I'm thinking that the lever connected to the clutch pedal needs the little nut undone and adjusted to full length....I'm only getting about 1.5 in of travel at the slave....fully bled. Help! --Dog

Ok, so I'm getting ready to go over the differential I just bought before I put it into my 280Z. I've ordered new pinion and halfshaft oil seals that I will use, and since the cover was off when I bought it, a new gasket too (although I just read one of our tech articles that recommends Nissan silicone for that "never leak" seal). The gears seem to turn freely and smoothly, but I don't have any experience with working on the inside of a differential, so I don't really know what I'm looking for. I read the FSM section on servicing the R200, and while the diff itself seems reasonably simple, there appear to be a plethora of special tools recommended to set clearences, pr…

Hi all, I've just got hold of an R200 to put in my '73. It's a 3.7 though - you get what you can over here ok I was looking at the old z garage site - http://geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html - though and got an idea. According to that site the 3.7 is a 37:10 ring/pinion and the 4.11 is a 37:9 ring/pinion. So my question is are the two ring gears the same and can I just swap in a 9 tooth pinion gear to convert my 3.7 to a 4.11 or are there subtle geometry differences between the two 37 ring gears? OK I practically know the answer is no but it's got to be worth asking the question right? Cheers, Rob

I'm installing an energy suspension kit on my rear control arms on the a-frame. The arm connects to the base of the shock by means of a spindle. I have the bushings fitted to the control arm, but noticed that the bushings appear to be to thick. I've read other articles for other kits that sounds like maybe I should sand down the bushings a bit so it will mount up with the rear wheel assembly. Does anyone know if this is safe or had to do this to their energy suspension kit??? Again this is the bushing between the less wider part of the control arm and the wheel assembly. They are polyurethene bushings. Any help would be appreciated!
