Situation: I am going to rebuild the suspension on my '78 280Z over the summer (it definately needs bushings and shocks), and the plans include new shocks and springs. On my current setup, which has aftermarket wheels and OEM springs, there is probably about 1/8" clearence between the tire and spring on the front. This includes using about a 1/4" spacer on the wheels. Question: I'm thinking about the Tokico Blue shock/spring combination. Are the springs the same diameter as OEM, just shorter and heavier? Can't afford to have to replace wheels/tires due to spring clearance problems, and would rather not add more of a spacer. I assume the diameter is the same so t…

Any suggestions that will make reinstalling the tranny by myself easier? The Z is on jackstands just high enough to get the tranny underneath. I've only installed the tranny with the engine out of the car, so this looks like it is going to be way more difficult if not impossible. I do have the clutch alignment tool, but even with the engine out of the car, those tools are mediocre at best. I have a small floor jack but no tranny jack. I can bench press the tranny up into the tunnel, but can't hold it there for very long. Any suggestions(no cost) would be appreciated. Thanks, Victor.

Howdy guys, just wondering if anyone had bought a set of MSA sway bars for the 2nd gen 240z and if so, does the rear sway bar mount to the suspension....I don't want to buy a set that makes me drill any holes (er rust) in the floorpan. MSA people are usually dolts on the phone, and will say whatever.... ....so thanks for an answer in advance, and Z u L8r!

Hello to all, e few weeks ago I replaced my balljoints. But my steering wheels still shakes by a certain speed. I filled them up with fresh grease. Today I jacked up my car, to feel the bearing play. In vertical direction there was no play. But in horizontal direction there was much play on both sides. I could see, that the play is under the grommet. When I lift the car down, the play feels normal. Is this caused by a conical construction without spring load ? The balljoints, are made in taiwan. Thanks for all your shared expirience Rainer

My "new" 71 Z has some problems with handling. Im not sure how old the shocks springs or bushings are but heres some symtoms of the problem. The car has a real tendency to "bottom" out on undulating road surfaces. The bottoming occurs in ther rear and I'm referring to a "squonshing " noise on hitting bumps. The noise happens more often when i have more weight in the back, like when the gas tank is full. More problematic is when I hit rough patches of road with the rear suspension. especially on the right rear, the car will "jump" a bit sideways. Yesterday on a tght corner at only about 35 MPH the rear hit a bump and really lost it sideways. Ok the car has both front and …

OK, someone smarter than me needs to help me here. I had my 240 in storage for 16 months. Ran great before I stored it. Took a bit, but I finally got it started this weekend only to find out that it will not go in gear now?? pushing the shifter towards first makes the car rock forward a little. No grinding noise. Trying for reverse and you are grinding serious gears. Didn't do that before I stored it. Anybody have any idea what is up? I am guessing something with vacuum? But I know nothing about the working of the transmission.

I'm getting ready to work on my diff and as I was looking at it I remembered that i've always had a problem with the fluids coming out of the vent. This is my second diff and i've always made certain to not overfill. Back when my car was running I would wash the diff every now and then with a high pressure hose to get the oil/crud off. Then after a couple of months it would be there again. I noticed on my Chevy truck there is a two foot hose attached to the diff that goes up with the vent cap at the end of the hose. Now I'm wondering do I just have a case of bad luck when it comes to my diff's leaking or is this a common problem? And what do you guys think about putti…

I am sticking a 1980 280zx 5 speed into my 1973 240z and was wondering if I will need to modify the shifter. I think I've read most of the posts but am still a bit confused. Some threads say great fit, others say you need to do some bending. If bending is needed, does someone have a pattern to use? I thought I saw something about that a while ago, but can't seem to find the info. Thanks, Victor.
