Hey folks. My tranny in my early 71 (4 speed style A) is making some noise when i let out the clutch in neutral. I understand this could spell trouble.it's a whirring noise like you would get with a bad throw out bearing when you push the clutch in. The service manual says it could be clutch related or bearing related. I plan to ask a local tranny shop what they think, any ideas here?? The previous owner told me the tranny had been rebuilt recently, and the tranny fluid does look pretty clean. Maybe the problem is something minor? Anyway Im also wondering what everyone thinks about doing a five speed swap and concerns with car originality. Its a series one that is all ori…

I am going to put a 1980 280zx 5 speed transmission into my 1973 240z manual. I am a bit confused from the posts I have read as to which fork to use and which sleeve and throw out bearing to use. Please shed some definitive light on this for me. Thanks, Victor.

I am parting out a '71 Z car. I am trying to remove the differential without droping the suspension. Every bolt is very rusty and I have broken a couple of bolts in spite of using a methaceteline torch. The car needs to roll to get out of the garage. Right now I have the differential unbolted from the front cross member and the mustache bar but can't get it out. The mount with it's very rusted bolts is still connected. Thanks Steve

Hello All, Not sure if my post went through but I am trying to figure out what this part if, one person tells me its a tension rod and the othe says its a compression rod and the book says it a radius rod. I can seem to find the part at the auto store and need to know where I can locate a part of them. Here is a photo of what I am looking for. I found this in one of the posts, it made it clear to what I am looking for: FSM: Compression Rod Haynes Manual (UK): Radius Rod Victoria British: Tension Rod MSA: Tension Rod I have also heard this being called a T/C Rod.

I just installed second slave cylinder(Nobco) and clutch hose to my 72Z after I installed first (it is turned out defective; broken bleeding pin) slave cylinder a week ago from another part shop(NAPA), and I am waiting to install 1972 240z master cylinder from the other parts shop. When I bought and installed second slave cylinder(1972 240z) is exact idenical slave cylinder from my 72z which I removed an old one, so I assume that current hydroric system may be stock(1972 240z). I thought my 240z has equipped with different hydroric system because privious ownder told me that he installed the Center Force II or '86 300 z clutch assembly. This is my question…

Hi guys, I'm looking at buying a set of new Tokico shocks. The guy who has them bought them for his 260z, but I want to know if they will fit my '71 240z. The model number is 3012 and the Tokico website lists them as for 74.5-78 260 and 280 models. Would they just need a spacer or something to fit, or would they be no good at all. Just looking for an answer before I spend $20 on an international phone call to Tokico. Thanks

referring to the 3N71B transmission, would it be possible to change the gearing for 3rd gear to something like .75, which would be the overdrive from the 4N71B? thx
