Hi all, been lurking in the shadows for 2 years and have finally started my 76 280et project. I'm looking for a 300Zx turbo diff in Canada .(hopefully)I may have found one in a wreckers, but he's asking my if it's a manual or auto, and saying 87 only. Ithought 87 to 89 any trans fit. Can anyone shed some more light on this before I dive in further?

OK I thought I knew what I had to do to put an R200 3.90 in my 71Z,but now I'm not so sure.I just bought a Diff. from a guy that also had it installed in a 71Z .He tells me that I don't need to change anything to install it (no mustache bar, half shafts, ect). After taking it home I decided to open the cover to make sure it was a 3.90, which it was ,it was stamped 39.10.Ok,so if it is an R200 how can it fit a 71 Z without changing mustache bar , cross member and half shafts?:cross-eye

My car already has new springs and shock absorbers and is sitting on 14 x 7's. I am planning on upgrading the wheels in a year or two and want to lower the stance of my car by about 1 1/2 inches and was thinking about using lowering blocks or coil spring locks to do this. Has anyone used blocks in their Z? Are there any other ways of lowering a Z without replacing the springs?

I've got the dreaded "clunk" in the rear end of my 73 240 when starting up and shifting, and reversing. Not always, but some of the time. From this forum I assumed my mustache bar bushings were shot. But I got under there last weekend and they look good. In fact I couldn't budge the front of the diffy at all with my hands. I even brought the floor jack over and applied a little lifting on the front and it didn't move. I tried moving the different u and half shaft joints with my hands and nothing has much play in it, at least for a 30 year old 200k mile car :classic: I'm wondering now if the problem is inside the diffy? And given that the PO says that's the way it h…

Hi All, I picked up my 240Z on Saturday and had to drive home with it about 150miles mainly motorway. The thing that I really noticed was that the car seemed to need to rev pretty high to get a shift on. I did some testing today and came up with these rough figures at 4000rpm: 2nd gear = ~30mph 3rd = ~45mph 4th = ~60mph 5th = ~70mph I had a look at the transmission calculator and these figures don't seem to tally with any on there. I'm assuming I have a 3.9dif which was the one used in the UK AFAIK and the closest gearset that seems to match the speeds I'm seeing is the 32010-N3201 Factory Competition (rally transmission) gearbox. The other alternative is that I hav…

hi folks; i'm new to the board and hoping for some help. i don't have a Z-car; but i do have a rebuilt 4 speed transmission. it appears to be an earlier 240/260/280Z or possibly a 1600/2000 roadster unit. there are no tags or identifying stamps on it. it has several casting marks on the tailshaft housing and gearbox case. i'm not sure if it's referred to as a 3 or 4 piece case; but there are 4 distinct parts - bellhousing, gearbox case, intermediate plate and tailshaft housing. it has a 3.5XX 1st gear and 1:1 4th i'm trying to identify it for sale and any/all help is appreciated. best to reach me by email . thanks, mike
