First off I'm new here and I would just like to say hello. now down to business. I just got a set of Tokico gas shocks, I'm reading through the directions and it says that you need to have bumpstopers Two questions. One what the heck do bumpstops have to do with my suspension? I thought they regulated the distance between the bumper and the body of the car. Two do I need to buy a set of "bumpstops" or would they be part of the stock assembly? Thanks for the help, Charlie.

ok ,yall seem to be the most helpful group of z nuts i've ever had the pleasure of reading from. me being a nut as well i guess i shold know this stuff but, ive never really dealt much with suspension; im more of a stock guy, but the 72 240z i saved is far beyond that already so im taking on my first modidfied project. the insane previous owner heated and cut the origional springs (the car is about 1"- 2" off the ground now) so, being on a limited budget, i purchased some used springs;12" st 103# rear and 11" st 175" fronts. Now, after reading yall's discussions for hours, I am wondering what you would reccomend, remember i'm on a TIGHT budget, I do about my strut situat…

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing a 72 240z. When I test drove it, a high pitch whinning noise came for the rear end, and I noticed a tiny oil leak coming from the passenger side axle, where the alxe meets the differential. I am used to working on toyotas..AE86. A high pitch like that usually means that the the ring and pinion gear is shot but we could drive it forever as long as the fluid level was ok. Is there any safety issues since if I purchase it, I would have to drive it approx. 100 miles to get it home. Also wouldt r200 differential from a 75-83Z bolt right in? Also what is a mustage bar? Please help I just want to make sure I know what i am getting into. Tha…

Hey all, Ive been searching and searching about diff ratios, and all i can find is what each car has. my question that i couldn;t find the answer to is what happens if you put say a 3.70 differential into a transmission and engine that originally had a 3.54 diff, assuming they were both r200s? ive been told that any r200 differential will work on a tranny with an r200 originally, but what does the diff size have to do with anything? thanks for the help! jason

When i tend to hit bumps in the road the back end feels like trying to replicate a shakira video... and is obviously worse at higher speeds. MSA sway bars were added by the previous owner and i've ordered the energy suspension urethane bushing set. will the bushings cure my booty shake or is it something else?

I have the car described above, and it needs new struts and springs, and I favor OEM engineered suspension bits, but I was wondering if anyone could qualify my assumption that Euro/Jap/Aus suspension bits have firmer damping rates, etc. Any link to sources to buy such parts would be helpful. Thanks John

Short story: I had these linear rate spring in my 72' 240Z, and the ride height was about 2" lower than stock. I took them out a few years ago and put in Eibachs for a smoother ride. A few people in my local club are building a track car, and I had these springs, so we put them in. The problem is that the ride height is way too high (about an inch higher than stock). The club car is a 73' body, with 72' struts. We have Koni strut cartriges installed. Any help appreciated. Pete

Just trying to brainstorm here, I get a new msa clutch master cylinder, it's been installed for about 2 years. The black res. cap has never really fit well, and will just slide out if you pull up on it, without any twisting at all. Looks like a design defect. I would like to make it seal better.... ...has anyone solved this problem? Thanks in advanced, Dog

I have heard that a short throw stick was make shifting easier and allow for faster shifting. So I have to ask: 1) What is the length of a standard stick in a first gen Z? 2) What are the real benifits to a short throw stick? I have a very early '71 240Z (really a '70) that will be getting a '77 5-speed in it if this helps any.

Is it possible to pull the diff out with driveshaft still atattched? I have undone the diff mounts, halfshafts etc etc and the only thing holding the diff to the car is the drive shaft. Now the 4 nuts at the driveshaft/diff flange are particularly seized and not easy to get leverage on so I am wondering if it is easier to disconnect it at the gearbox end. I pulled the diff backwards to see and the shaft slipped back from the gearbox about 2" but thats about it, doesnt want to go any further and is still fixed. My other car i dismantled didnt have a driveshaft so this is new to me, any pointers on what to do will be really appreciated. I hope to get it done tomorrow as i g…

Hi all- For Christmas, my loving wife bought me the polyurethane hyperflex master bushing kit for my "late" 260Z. Just got the suspension video from Ztherapy too. So, while its apart, i'll replace the balljoints and outer tie rod ends & whatever else i need/afford. Does anyone have an opinion (well, of course you do..) about using OEM Nissan, versus Moog or ACDelco aftermarket parts? The price differential is astounding! May also grab a set of Eibach progressive springs- will relatively new KYB cheapo strut cartridges work okay with thos springs? Thanks everyone- please send some warm air to western NY, its 12 degrees F in my garage at the moment...BRRR.. Jeremiah

Can anyone tell me what the stock gear ratio was in the R180 rearend and the R200 rearend. Also, did the gear ratio change with the year of the Z even though they had the R180 or R200 chunk.
