I have a 1971 240z 4 speed w/ 280z transmission and engine is what i i was told. I was wondering if anyone knew what would cause the shifter to pop out of 3rd gear into neutral ( seems to happen every now and then especially when i hit a bump ). Does this mean i need new bushings ? I don't know much about cars but was hoping for some ideas. thanks

I'm trying to clean my A-arms and front cross member so I can paint them. My question is how do I get into those small crevaces? There is a plate welded over the channel making it impossible to sandblast in there. I was thinking of taking it to my plater and having them dip the pieces in acid. What can you guys suggest?

Can anyone tell me whether a 5 speed gearbox from a 1979 model 280ZX 2 + 2 will fit a 1985 300ZX?

Hit a good sized pot hole, at just the right (or wrong) speed, and heard some nasty bump and grind. On my way home, I had a new bumping when the right rear got un-weighed. Once home, flashlight in-hand, I discovered what happened - ripped the rear sway bar end link out of the rear control arm. I would have thought that the Urethane bushes would fail before the steel of the control arm.... but no, the bushes are fine, as a matter of fact, they have a ring of nee control-arm-steel still sandwiched between themROFL Oh well, that's what spare parts are for..

Hi folks I've posted questions on this a while back, see if you can spot the problem - When I hit 50mph I get a rumbling sound in the cabin, and vibration from the rear. Once I hit about 65mph+ it disappears. Suggestions so far are things like tailshaft, CV's/U-joints, outer bearings, etc... UPDATE: I had my car on a "rolling road" DYNO last week, and when I hit 50-60mph the guy said my rear left wheel was tramping up and down a bit (kind of wobbling). Makes sense. I guess if my rear left wheel is bumping along the road then it would feel a bit like an out-of-balance driveshaft or similar. Kind of feels like I have one square tyre! It's not tyres though, because t…

I'm going to replace the old rubber bushings on my 72 Z with poly-U bushings. I've done some searching and found mention of a few different kits for sale. Any suggestions which kit to buy and from whom?

I can stop in the 280Z, but I would like a firmer brake pedal feel. First pump goes in partway to start braking. Second pump is better, but thethird pump grabs right away. What things do you need to check?

Ok, I swung by the Z-Clinic this morning and the owner/mechanic told me that the awful noise coming from the passenger rear was a very bad c-joint. He wants $125 for the one side and stated that the part is about $50 from the dealership. I was looking in both VB and MSA catalogs and did not find them...did I misunderstand and he said U-Joints? Is there such a thing as a c-joint? So if it is the u-joint then they run $12.95/each from VB for the stock type and $17.95/each for the same at MSA. Now MSA also has a Spicer heavy duty u-joint they recommend for racing which costs $32.95/each. Does anyone know how much better these are? I will be autoxing my Z and would like …

Does anyone actually OWN a rear sway bar for a 240 that fits into those cute little brackets that come pre-installed on something like '73-on? It looks identical to the 280 and accepts the same bushing and cover and bolt and everything BUT they are in different places!!!! Needless to say, a 280 stock sway bar DOES NOT fit into these brackets. Well...it fits INTO them just fine, but the eyelets for the endlinks are hanging out back somewhere around the e-brake lever. On closer inspection, (lucky me, I have a 280 and a 240 side-by-side in the gee-raaage) the brackets on the 240 are welded on the same structural member that crosses the underbody and contains the front di…

Well, I tried Eibachs and hated them. Now I am back to stock springs but am wondering if I could put stock 280Z sway bars (1" front and 7/8" rear -- if that was stock for the 280) into my 240. I know there is no rear mounting point but I aquired cross member (from a 280 I think) some time ago that has mounting points for the sway bar. Has anyone done this conversion? Also, I could post a picture of the crossmember but am not sure how to do so.
