Just bought my first 240z, 1971 series I with 167K miles on original engine. First look shows the front end sitting high. Measuring heights at the center of the bumpers show the front about 1.5" high. Struts still dampen without overshoot. My first plan of action is to replace suspension bushings as the old ones are hard as a rock and cracked. While I have some maintenance records, I haven't found any records on servicing the struts. Any suggestions on how to restore the original height?

Looking for ideas of what to check to get this figured out. The Z has been in garage for about the last 5 years, finally got it running and for the most part all is well except I dont like the way it feels when changing gears and highway driving. All the suspension is new, tokico struts/springs (although they were replaced 5 years ago), bushings, mounts, ect. Feels "squirrely" to me and I am getting some drift when changing gears, mostly above 3rd. Its on stock 14" mags with Stinger 215 60 r14's, which I have tried a few different psi's and now have them at 32.

Alright so I've decided after taking someone elses Z for a spin this past weekend (and being thrilled with the ride quality) that I want to go coilovers. The kicker here is that I do not have the know-how or ability to section the struts or weld so I'm looking for something that I can bolt in directly if possible. The only place that I have found so far that does this is Techno Toy Tuning however (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I feel that $1950 for coilovers all around seems like a bit much even with included springs. Is there any other available bolt in ready product on the market that someone can suggest, or can someone let me know if spending the money here is wo…

I have FINALLY finished just about everything for my coilover conversion in my 1978 280z with Stance coilovers. I also have TTT control arms. I am at the point of dialing-in the ride height. Stance gave me four 6" threaded sleeves. I had them welded right to the hubs in the front and 3" above the hubs in the back. I was hoping to maintain stock height or maybe 1" lower than stock. Well after getting everything on and lowering the car, it looks like the front was lowered around 1" and the back was lowered around 2". I would like to crank the rear up another inch. The problem is, the threaded sleeve is currently only on by about 5 threads in both front/rear. I a…

Hi Guys, 1972, 240z, has a local shop install brand new KYB (basic struts and shocks) , new eibach progressive springs, new Nissan top mounts, new Nissan front bearing, new Urantha bump stops. The springs are installed correctly( check the part numbers 3 times, the front and back is correct) . But as soon as i picked up the car, I felt like it’s way to bumpy ( owned 2 other 240z in the past) this is maybe the worst ride? The worst part is that the front springs looks bent!! At first I thought it was because the the top of the springs is not seated correctly, but after I jacked the car up, wiggle it around, it’s sitting on the very top. Everyt…

Hey Guys, Replacing old rubber Sway Bar Link Ends this week with new Poly ones. QQ: How flush is the bushing supposed to sit on the sway bar? The old rubber ones contoured to the curve of the metal of the bar, but mostly because they were 43 years old and absolutely shot. As I am tightening the poly ones, they don't have as much flexibility and so they don't align as nicely. I assume this is okay, but wanted to check first before hitting the road. (Disclaimer: Sway bar ends are not tightened in the photos. Took the photo when I first put them in place, but forgot to take a tighted photo before leaving the shop.)

After a long bit of research I have finally concluded what I believe to be the correct tire size for '70-'78 model Z's. They origianlly came with a 70 rated 14" tire, usually a P185x70x14. Of couse this varied depending on the dealer of course. I have dabbled with 15" and 16" wheels, and yes, even with 17" wheels on my 240z. Nissan designed it to be a 14" tire. To go outside of this will mess with speedometer reading, and other things as well. I have even heard it will affect braking. In any case, I now go with, and recommend, a 60 rated 14" tire. My exact size, P215x60x14, all the way around. It gives me the look I want (low profile), performance (lower side walls = bett…

Back in the day, (can't believe I just said that) I took a few pictures of my rear suspension project. Removing the rear cross-member pins and bushings is the BIGGEST PAIN IN THE @#$ project ever attempted by a human. What did I end up doing? I removed the left pin easily... no big deal. The right side was a problem child. It didn't want to obey and come out of it's resting place of (oh) 30 years. It was seized. Many hours of pounding that pin (and contemplating if I should save the threads on the pin or not), I finally got it out. Pin was ruined. The stock bushings don't come out. In fact, there is an inner metal sleeve as well as an OUTER metal sleeve. What d…

Ok, so here's a stumper: I had the alignment (toe-in only) checked and fixed (after a complete rebuild) last Wednesday. This weekend I took a trip of almost 600 miles. Car still pulled a little to the left, but it wasn't bad. When I got home last night, I noticed that the outside 3" of tread on the driver's front tire was starting to show cords! Big time wear! So I took the car back to the alignment shop to have them fix the problem. They checked it all again and said the toe-in was still correct. Now they realize that they cannot adjust the camber on these cars, but they showed me on the machine that the camber on the drivers is out. Too much positive camber. o…

hi all, i was just at the junkyard where apparently today was "Z rear disc fiesta!" apparently... I came across 4 '79 Z's with rear disc brakes and 2 '82 Z's with rear disc brakes... From my cursory inspection it looks like the spacing for the mounting bolts of the bracket of the rear caliper to the rear hub is the same... BUT the two calipers ('79 vs '82) look very different. Does anyone here have a preference one over the other and why - yes this would be for retrofitting them to my '73 240Z... to be more specific the '79 appears to be a one piece design and it extends much deeper towards the center of the car than its '82 counterpart which has a more modern "2 pieces h…
