how hard is it to take the diff out of a 260z, im already taking the left half-shaft out to do a u-joint. the diff cover is leaking and i want to replace it here soon and i thought of doing it while i have it up on stands.

first, which is better to switch into a 240Z......R180 or R200 ( better meaning easier to do and till get better perf. ) second...does the kit and parts they sell HereNismo handle everything you would need to get from a donor car? Matt

I found a problem with the Z, when i put it in reverse and go back, it kinda locks and i accelerate and it goes but then it locks again BTW its a auto tranny on a 77 280Z. Wat coul it be?...

I found a r200 in a turbo '85. Is this a non lsd unit and what would the ratio be? I think it was auto tranny if that helps. Is this an easy swap just like the others?

I am going to look at another car tomorrow a 78z ,, I talked to the owner today and he mentioned the car makes a Whining sound while it's in gear ....,,I asked him if he could tell where the noise is comming from but he wasn't sure... the car has a manual trans... anybody have any thoughts ? something minor ? something to worry about? thanks for any input...

Hi, Does any know: 1) What the standard ride height is for a Z (preferrably a 240z)? 2) Where this would have been taken from? 3) How low is too low or does it not matter just what shocks you are using (camber aside)? Thanks, Ivan

o.k. guys, this is pretty much wide open. i'm really new to the Z-car thing so i don't have alot of experience with what mods these cars like and what to watch out for. what i can tell you right now is the car is a nearly stock '73. it will be modified for track events so cornering/braking will be of utmost importance. i'm planning on running a DOT 'R' compound tire like the kuhmo v700 or g-force KD, about a 245-45-17-ish. find some front disc in the 11-12" range and maybe run some wilwoods. i have no idea what to do about struts and anti-sway bars though. have at it.

Is this all I need to know in order to ID my 5spd tranny and get the right parts for it when I decide to go through it and give it all the TLC it deserves: "So: 0.745 x 360 = 268.2 degrees (1981-thru 1983) = 8:45 o'clock 0.773 x 360 = 278.3 degrees (1980 )_ = 9:15 o'clock 0.864 x 360 = 311 degrees (1977 thru 1979) = 10:30 o'clock Just remember that the earlier the "time" the "Later" (meaning newer model year) the box._ Before 9:00 o'clock is the 81-83 box, just after 9:00 o'clock is the 1980 box and at 10:30 o'clock is the 77-79 box." I may have a 5 speed from a 77 available and am considering picking it up to drop into my 71. Will it mate/drop directly in? I suspect it should, but am not certain. Thoughts?

I have a sound like a bad bearing in the rear end of my 260z. The sound is not consistant. It gets worse at certain speeds. I just had the differential changed, because the mechanic said that was the problem (not)! The sound is still there. He said the u joints on the half shafts, and the wheel bearings seemed ok. Any ideas?
