Ford rear ends? How much work is required to put a 9" ford rear end in a 73' 240z? Obviously I am having it done at a shop I am just wondering how extensive it would be and if it is too extensive is there a better rear end for this car that will hold some serious power?

After forgetting what is was like to actually drive a working Z car I have a few little questions after finally getting one on the road again. Is there any way to stop the shock/kick/clunk of the diff when shifting? We get a similar isue in our Z31 but its more pronounced in the 260Z. The spings in the clutch I beleive are meant to absorb the shock down the driveshaft so would alterning these help? What about a new rubber diff mount to replace the existing strap? Also what is the soft whirring/whinning noise from the gearbox when you slide the gear in when downshifting? I remember one of my other Z's did this and my new one just reminded me. Hey folks, thanks in advance for any advice. So I realized the other day that the oil in my gearbox (78 280Z 5 speed) probably hasn't ever been changed. Right now its at about 127k total mileage and it shifts fine, actually quite well for such an old car, but I was just wondering about that oil. Is it complicated to change it? Expensive? Is it worth it? And have any of you changed it and noticed an improvement in shifting quality?

I was callin around for shocks and a guy I know at a parts counter gave me a price of right around 50 bucks ( for some reason they usually dont charge me list, maybe its my looks?) per macpherson (cartridge?) How do these compare to tokico?

hi.. I need to remove the propeller shaft to help me on installing a new parkinbrake cable. i cant remove it . thers only 2 bolts but they wont move.. thanks, steve

My clutch in my z needs some help. When I got the car out of storage the clutch fluid was like sludge. I cleaned out the master cylender the best I could but when I press the clutch and hold in down its loosing pressure. So I think I will just replace that hose and clean out the system. My question is how hard is it to replace that hose and bleed the clutch?

I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem. When I originally bought my 260 the front tie rods were shot so I replaced them with new ones that were one a 240 I was pulling apart. Recently, I had the car on the wheel aligner and was attempting to set the toe and centre the steering wheel. What I found was that one the the tie rods was about 1/2" longer than the other and I wasn't able to centre the steering properly. I checked the old tie rods I had taken off the car and found they were of equal length and were the size of the smaller tie rod. Does anyone have an idea what the longer tie rod might be off? Ok, I've been through the calculator at http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/ and I have also read up on the charts on http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Boulevard/6117/datsuntransmittionratios.html Now what I'm trying to determine is what is the noticable difference between an R180 3.9 and an R180 4.11 in a 240Z with an F54 block, N42 head, and a '77 5-speed? Will I notice any difference between the two diffs? I will be autoxing the car and also an occasional weekend/weekday drive for fun. Please do not say that these ratios are not available in the R180, they are but they are just hard to find.

Im looking at picking up a 3.7 R200 from a wrecker and perhaps getting some extra plates put in to increase the break away torque. Any comments from the pros in regards to this? Also are there any issues with fitting the LSD to the standard 260Z shafts? Thanks
